How to persuade my parents?

My dad, brother and I all want to build some tree houses in the trees of our new house but my mum isn't so keen and I don't think my dad will ever get round to it. How can I persuade my mum to except it and make my dad make time to do it AND acctually do it?

As much as I love the "idea" of a tree house, and as much fun as they can be, I have to rain on your parade just a bit. Not all trees are suitable, mature enough, correct branching, the stronger kind of tree. Maybe, you have a good tree, maybe not. At the very least, any tree can be damaged and have their growth inhibited by nails and the attachment of boards. They can be weakened and left more susceptable to disease and insect damage. All these things need to be considered when you chose a tree for this project. Your Mom and Dad may have good reasons for their reluctance, besides danger or laziness.

Would you be willing to accept a playhouse that is upraised but not built right into the tree?

A playhouse that is up on stilts and has a ladder can give you the same effect if it is placed right near the tree and it is alot safer and easier to build.

Maybe if you downloaded the plans for one of these playhouses, it would go over better with your parents. They also have property values to consider and an upperdeck playhouse is alot easier to take down when the house is up for sale.

Get some workable plans and call a family meeting. It all depends on how old you are and what your building skills are. I think your dad should take the time to help you because kids grow up and leave. This would be a memory you all could cherish.
