The aspirin didn't kill them. Next time, as soon as you get them, cut the stems shorter under running water or under water and try to put them in a water-filled vase ASAP. The other is to add a few drops of household bleach.

Cut plants die quickly when the cut of the stem is exposed to air. This allows air into the stem which forms a bubble in the stem. The water can't get past it to keep the plant alive. The bleach is to prevent algae, which also helps to kill the plant. Or else, change the water frequently.

Sure, next time, as soon as you get them, cut the bottom of the stems diagonally under warm water the diagonal cut allows the water to be absorbed, fill the vase up about 1/2 way with warm water and then add a warm can of Sprite. (Sprite only, the other carbonated drinks will kill them)

This works, I get flowers twice a month for my office.

I worked in a restaurant with fresh flowers on all the tables. We kept them fresh by reclipping the stems and putting fresh water in vases. Then we would spray them with cool water and put them in the walk-in cooler over night. This would definitely help them last.

It is possible that your roses were old already. A little sugar works too. They may have been too far gone or been blown on by an ac vent.
