My daughter spilled milk or some other liquid on her bedroom floor and a piece of paper actually is stuck on the hardwood now. Is there something I can use to soak this off without damaging the wood? She hid this from me by covering it, so it has been there long enough to dry. Help!

it would help if you knew precisely what it is. and what the finish on the floor is. i would simply place towel over it dampened with hot water with a little dawn dish detergent in it. . keep it wet for a while, how long is hard to say, maybe a few minutes, maybe a couple of hours.

if that does not work, spray the area with WD 40, or use any light oil. even cooking oil. when you have the material up, then wash the area again with warm water and a drop or two of the dawn in it.
try soaking the area with Real Coke, that sometimes works, then wash as before.

next thing to try is ordinary rubbing alcohol..use it on paper towels or regular towels, and scrub. maybe a sponge with it soaked in it. when done, use the water rinse again. be careful with this one, now you are running the risk of damaging the finish, depending on what the finish actually is.

if all of these fail, there are a myriad of other cleaners to try. vinegar, and store bought ones like greased lightning. they have some risk of damaging the finish too, though. try the water first, then the oil, as they have the least risk.

If your floor was sealed properly, the finish is probably still intact. If the person that installed it cut any corners, you'll find out very soon.

You do need to dampen this again and you'll be able to rub it right off. You can use a damp dishwashing sponge with a little bit of soap on it. When you rub the hardwood, make sure that you go WITH the grain.

When you're done, a little bit of furniture polish should make the floor look as good as new. Good luck.

o.k. at least it was your daughter, my husband did this to me. Get dawn dish washing soap. Mix it with some warm water in a bucket. Go to the place where the paper is plastered to the floor, Spread some of your mixture across the area, let soak a couple minutes and scrub your heart out. Its gonna feel gross but it does work. I just started trying stuff when it happened and this worked the fastest and got it completely clean. Good luck!!

A little soapy water will be fine. I'm sure the floor has some sort of finish on it that will protect it. Again...Warm soapy water. Then clean the entire floor with Murphy's Oil Soap...Great stuff for all wood finishes.

MAGIC ERASER will work. You can buy it everywhere. I got a piece of paper stuck to a wood table top the same way and that worked wonders and didn't damage the wood.

Any floor cleaner (hardwood) with oil should help to get it off. Let it sit if it doesn't come off easy the first time.

If it's a finished hard wood floor, I would use some regular cleaner like pinesol or fantastic. If it's unfinished use sand paper and lightly sand it off. If it's finished and you need something stronger use WD-40.

I think you can just wet it again and then strip it off and dry it quickly. I suspect though that there will already be a water stain from the first spill.

Rip the paper up & wipe with damp rag or damp mop. Just don't soak the spot to much.
