In my house I have hardwood floor, tiles, linoleum and carpet as floor coverings. I wonder if there is a vacuum out there that can vacuum as well as steam the various floor surfaces and do a good job. I have no pets so hair is not a big problem. I know of a few name brands (Dyson, Oreck, Kirby, Miele, etc.) but am not familiar with which model that can do the job. If you have experience with a good one can you tell me the brand and model name? Thanks.

I would definitely recommend going with a Dyson. They work on every type of floor (in fact, one of their models is called the All Floors). They work wonders at getting up dirt and grime. In fact, if you use another vacuum and then use a Dyson over that same spot, you'll notice that the Dyson actually picks up dirt & filth over the area that you thought was clean! Supposedly the suction technology never wears off.

I think you can get a dyson dc15 at BBB for $549 (if you have one of those 20% off discounts) + tax or you can get it for $509 (no tax or shipping) at Powervacs.com

I have a Dyson and love it!!! I use it on carpet, laminate, wood, and tile. it has all of the attachments right on board, a long hose and a bare floor setting. It is bag-less and really easy to empty. It never looses suction just like it claims. I have a dog and it works great on picking up his hair on the rugs, bare floors and couches. Hands down, the best vacuum I have ever used, and I have had many, hoover, oreck, eureka. Dyson is defiantly worth the money. As for the steaming, I don't know of a vacuum that also steams. sorry.

First off what are you're current floor coverings? If they are carpet, then go for it. Ceramic tile goes great any where and is a big seller as long as it looks good with the color in the room. As for dark wood, be careful too dark and it will scare off some buyers. Make sure whatever you decide on looks good with its surroundings (wall color, furniture, drapery) as these can make a huge difference when it comes time to sell. Let perspective buyers see the home furnished and if you choose the right combinations its money in the bank.

Dyson. They work best on everything I've got (wood, tile, carpet) and don't lose suction between. We have two cats and a dog, so it works really well at getting up animal hair and dander. Plus, you can get the bagless kind, which are pretty sweet.

I have a Kirby. It came with various detachable heads to care for all floor types as well as a shampooer. I have had mine now for more than 20 years and it is used every day. (Wonderful for pet hair).

Hi,

This is always a confusing area, as there are so many different ways to measure vacuuming "performance".

Rather than steal information I have read and plagiarize...check out this article on choosing a vacuum:

I use a Bissel upright bagless, but a lot of people have spoken highly of the Dysons.
