I have 11 windows in my house, so I'm putting plastic up on 1 or 2 at a time. Are the south-facing windows more at risk for draftiness?

Loosing water pressure (going down quickly-- within 2 days) but no signs of leaks in obvious places
I do not wish to raise too many floorboards -just laid a wood over floor !
no leak visible in ceiling either
10 days (aprox) prior to pressure problem occuring ,I fitted a new radiator - have checked carefully around this area - no leaks

Boiler type Voikera 28 - sealed system

3 Questions:-
1 Any suggestions please?
2 Is there a gadget to detect water leaks without having to lift all the floorboards ?
3 could there be a problem with the gas boiler itself?

Looking forward to your replies

Thanking you all in anticipation

Ok, here's the thing. I got 5 estimates about replacing my HVAC system. No problem. Three of the five looked in my attic and said I need to replace the duct system completely as the insulation is hanging off, plastic showing, etc. (It's probably over 20 years old). One person did not even look up in the attic. One other looked and said it needed to be replaced in certain sections, and two say it needs to be replaced completely citing that the plastic is showing and not in the best condition. The last guy who looked says it looks good, does not need to be replaced, just put new insulation on the areas where it is hanging. He said the plastic is not brittle, so the whole thing does not need to be replaced. See my confustion here? I have ascertained that the duct needs attention. That I believe. But whether the whole thing needs replacing is the question. Should I replace the whole thing (more money) or just certain sections as recommended? Be serious please.

Right now my room is kind of a beach theme. I have a hawaiian-ish bedspread, and other things like my lamp, post-it board, and these blue and green lights that match.

I like having a beach theme because that kind of fits my personality, but I'm getting sick of it. I have dark green carpet and lime green walls. What should I do?

I live in a flat that has not central heating, storage heaters, or coal fire, there is no gas, so I have to use electric heaters.

At the moment I am using a couple of halogen heaters. In your opinion, which type of electric heaters are most efficient, cheapest to run, etc?

We installed a bathtub/shower/tub surround we purchased from Home Depot two or three years ago. The surround is separate from the tub.
It said on the instructions that silicone caulking was not to be used. We couldn't find any other type of caulk so we used mildew-resistant silicone. It is not sticking properly and is getting mouldy behind the caulking.
I need to peel the caulking off and clean out the mould.
What can I repair it with? I can't leave it uncaulked or the walls behind it will go mouldy. Any ideas?
Please only answer if you are familiar with construction/bathtubs.
Thank you.

i am hanging wallpaper this evening. however, there is a medicine cabinet in the middle of one of the walls, i wanna go ahead and wallpaper now, and take the medicine cabinet out later. If i make it so one strip can be taken out and replaced where the cabinet is, will i be able to fill in the hole, and just add a new strip of wallpaper in and not worry about it shrinking?? i have wallpapered before and love it. i hope this works, i just don;t wanna tackle the medicine cabinet yet. ( i just moved into a new place and want it to all be fresh) thanks.

The original floor treatment was asbestos tiles. After a few sewer backups the tiles are starting to raise up and buckle. I think it would be cost prohibitive to have the tiles removed and discarded because they contain asbestos. Is there something that would seal all this in and allow us to put carpet or other flooring material on top? I would suspect many people who had renovations done in the 60's are having this exact same problem.

I have read somewhere that if you put the ceiling fans opposite(counterclockwise) in winter that it will help the heating bills and does not effect your electricity too much. He says that is wrong. What is the correct way?
