Take it from a guy that only wears cotton, it's not the washing process that shrinks cotton but the drying. Wash in warm or cold water and tumble dry over LOW heat or air dry. You can turn an XL men's T-shirt into a favorite outfit for your chihuahua just by washing in hot water and over-drying.

Quite a bit. You'll have to wash them in cold water and then hang them up to dry. They should make cotton shirts larger than normal so they will shrink to the actual size. Or they should be pre-shrunk so they don't shrink when we wash them.

Most 100% cotton shirts are pre-shrunk. Look on the tag, if it doesn't say preshrunk, then it should not shrink much if you DO NOT wash it in hot water.
