I hate to tell you this but you will have to use a machine, a snake will open it up but will more than likely just poke a hole in the blockage. A pipe machine will cut the blockage out. I just wanted to tell you this so you will not keep having this problem, the main problem with sewer mains are roots. Hope this helps.

if you can find another clean out out side of the house snake it from there. a big block like that chemicals aren't really going to help it.. if you can't find a clean out out side be very carefully when you pull the clean out inside there will be a lot of back pressure and a lot of sewage behind that pressure get a few big buckets and another set of hands to catch the water then go ahead and snake it out and chances are you don't even need a power snake just something to break up the clog and push it down the line

I would go ahead and spend the money renting the roto machine...that way you know that it's clean. Best of luck to you.

You can usually rent a "snake" to unclog that type of drain. It's a simple job. Just make sure you rent one that's long enough to reach the clog.

How far in is the obstruction? A hand snake might work but if not call roto router or similar outfit.
