I am planning to install Pergo laminate in my apartment but we have only floor heating. Will laminate make the apartment colder and will it eventually dry due to heat from the floor?

Yes, you can install Pergo over a heated floor! But the question is.... Will it get warmer or colder? This will depend on what you have installed now. Lets say you have a Medium Carpet with 1/2" Pad - Your R Value is about 3.5 R. With ceramic tile 0.34 R Value. *** Laminate has a lower R Value then carpet but more then Ceramic tile. Laminate is about 0.70 R with a foam (or cork underlayment). With infloor heating the lower the R Value the better for warmth. So Laminate is a great product to keep your house warm. BUT, Keep your temp to a modest level, as you will not need to have it as warm as you once did (if you had carpeting) If you keep the level to high damage can occur to any flooring.

You should be able to install a laminate flooring over in-floor heat. Prior to installation, check with the manufacturer to make certain this can be accomplished. Some manufacturers will void warranty if there is excessive heat. I have installed laminate flooring of several makes and have seen where the joints separate over heating ducts. One manufacturer indicated that this was excessive heat and would void all warranty and liabitlity.

Contact them first. If they say it can be done, make sure to follow all directions carefully (i.e.:acclamate the material for 24-48 hours, etc.) then proceed. Good luck!
