I live in a flat that has not central heating, storage heaters, or coal fire, there is no gas, so I have to use electric heaters.

At the moment I am using a couple of halogen heaters. In your opinion, which type of electric heaters are most efficient, cheapest to run, etc?

The most efficient heaters are the baseboard convection heaters, the ones that are 4 or 5 feet long(about a meter & 1/2). when they are left on, and thermostatically controlled, they produce a consistent temperature and are safer than most others. The downfall of them is they don't provide instant heat, and need to left on most of the time to be efficient.

I like the one that looks like a small heating radiator. When it get really cold then I use a small ceramic heater, also electric. Make sure you don't overload your circuits though. Both run around 1500 watts, if you would run both on a 20 amp breaker you would kick the breaker. I run two on a 30 amp breaker with 10 gauge wire leading to the receptacle. Then I have a ground fault interrupter as the receptacle.

Radiant heaters put off good heat, but some of them rattle too loud. I have a quiet heater, it is called a milkhouse heater or a utility heater. They still use them in barns, but they also use them in houses too. They are square, tough, and rugged, and have a fan that blows heat. It's not quite as hot as a radiant heater, but I don't have to worry about kicking it or knocking it around. They have them at WalMart and lots of other places. Mine has two speeds: 1500/750 watts. Some models have 2250 watts instead of 1500.

It depends where are you living (country, area etc) and how often it's cold. Then each electrical device runs with a number of Watts which is written on it. The bigger number the Watts more power and more money you need, but this doesn't; mean that you 'll have better heat. Also you can find some ways to isolate better your place, so you ' ll save heat.

Calor gas heaters are very good. If you have to use electric look for the A graded heaters as they will save you a lot of money.

I think Oil heaters are the cheapest. They look like wee radiators on wheels and you plug them in. Apparently don't use much power at all. You can get them from DIY stores.

Oil radiators are the superb alternative I think. They can put out a lot of heat for less expense over the long haul, so my experiences have been.
