Pain & Pain Management - January 2007

I have SIckle Cell and one thing that ticks me off is when I tell Dr.'s that the pain meds they give me don't work and they're like well we'll just up the dosage (like I haven't already when in enough pain) or they're like take it in conjunction with something else (like I haven't already). The pills still don't work and it's like they won't prescribe anything else. I'm like come on I'm 24 and you have been giving me the same meds for YEARS, does it occur to you that my body is so used to them that they no longer have any effect?? Tylenol w/ codine, prescription ibuprofen 600mg, even oral morpine, they are all jokes to me. Even percasets won't effect me. What in the he-zee can I do?

I don't know if it's my spine or my tailbone, but something's not right now there. I can't sit on hard surfaces without it hurting like mad above my butt. I have this urge to have someone pull my torso one way and someone else wrap their arms around my hips and pull the other way to stretch my back out. I have an apt. with my Dr. next week on Thursday, but that's a long time from now. Are there any exercises or stretches I can do to help this pain ease up?

My daughter has hypermobility disorder, which means her joints partially dislocate. She's been given a handicap sticker by her Doctor. She's in severe pain much of the time and even walking/stair climbing puts her in excruciating pain. But at 18 years old, she hasn't worked enough to apply for disability with the social security office. Also, if you're disabled, how are you supposed to work in order to receive benefits? Is there any way she can apply? Are there any exceptions?

My aging mother suffers from several "diagnosed" problems including arthritis, spondolosis, and 2 (repaired) compression fractures in her lower back in the last 6 years. Having exhausted all conventional treatment, we have seen a Pain Management specialist who recommends "Prolotherapy". I understand the concept behind it. I'm just not sure it's worth the pain and price she will have to endure since it isn't covered by insurance. If you have had this treatment, I'd love to hear whether it helped or not.

trying to find out what is in this medication

2007-01-25 13:54:45 · 3 answers · asked by Anonymous

The pain is kind of all over. It's in my thumb and part of my palm, in my fingers a little bit, in my wrist a lot, and even in my forearm. When I take notes in school, I have to drop my pencil every couple minutes and stretch out my wrist and hand because it hurts. And now I'm finding that when I try to support myself in pushup position, I get a weird pain right where my right hand meets my wrist.

I've never had this problem before; it's just been developing over the last few months. I write a lot during the day and also play piano, so I know I probably use that hand a lot, and maybe that's the problem and it's just tired. But I just want to know if I should be worried about it or talk to my doctor. Can you help me? Thank you so much in advance.

Lately I've been having chest pains, and it feels like my chest is tightening up on me. I only notice this while I am sitting down. I feel the pressure when I slouch, and when I straighten my back it relieves the pain. I have not gone to the doctor because I thought it would go away but it hasn't. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be, and how to fix it?

Neither one can make you totally painfree. The dope, if taken to become painfree will turn you into an addict living in "LaLa Land" where hypnosis is not addictive. I would rather not get answers from professional hypnosis people but from other chronic pain patients that have experience with both.

Back in the beginning of January I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured in me and I went to the gyno yesterday and was checked out for it. So I had like 3 days of menstrual cramps starting on Tuesday night and they were really bad on yesterday(Wednesday) and they finally sort of ended at like 2:00 today. They were painful cramps. Is it possible for your muscles to kind of hurt down there or feel some pressure? I was wondering cuz like my last period wasnt that heavy and this one is kind of heavy and with the ruptured cyst and all i was just wondering if this could happen
