It's called pins and needles because it can feel like sharp pains if it gets bad. It happens if you cut off or restrict the blood supply to that area of your body (usually extremities like foot, leg, hand finger) and is usually solved by shifting position and waiting several minutes for the blood supply to recover.

Its the pain of little pins and needles stabbing into the body part that has gotten short of blood circulation, commonly peoples feet if they are sitting down cross-legged for a long time for example.

Its a pain , not a tingling sensation from poor blood circulations, you morons, it is a pinched nerve that's why it radiates into arms or legs, on arms you'll feel it in pinkie the first , in legs its either toes or heel with the feeling of sharp objects under your feet. I got one word for you - CHIROPRACTOR.

when you cut the blood supply off to your arm/leg/foot it goes numb... and as it does it blocks the receptors from sending and recieving signals... when you restore the blood supply all those "lost" nerve impulses get sent...in one go... feeling like pins and needles...
