1. Exercise
2. Oral contraceptive pills
3. Try to eat smaller, more frequent meals.
4. Try an over the counter Ibuprofen. Advil, Nuprin, and Motrin IB all contain Ibuprofen, which is one of the best pain relievers around.
5. Reduce salt intake
6. Plenty of sleep
7. Heating pad or use one of those temporary heating products (Thermacare) that you can stick to your body where the pain is, lasts a long time, and nobody knows it's on. You can find them at the store near the tampons/pads.

Many times, people will build up tolerances to pain medications (including over the counter ones), so when something stops being effective at the recommended dosage, stop taking it. Move on to something else and take that until =it= stops working, then move onto a third thing, etc etc. Ideally, this process of switching will take weeks/months.
If you're looking for herbal supplements, i highly recommend Evening Primrose Oil. I take two every day and that's helped to minimize PMS as well as cramping and spotting between cycles.
I've found that keeping a heating pad at my desk can do wonders... whether it helps keep me warm when they blast the AC in the summer, or helps with aches, pains and cramps... definitely something i recommend giving a try.
These are just some simple quick remedies. If you have excessive pain that starts before the period begins, or it lasts several days afterwards, or if it's bad enough to keep you from going to work, etc... then there could be something fairly serious going on. In that case, you would want to seek out the advice of a medical professional.
The most important thing is to remember to Breathe. I know this sounds silly, but hear me out: the most common pain response is to tighten the muscles. It's like we're bracing for impact or something. Every now and then, stop what you're doing, close your eyes and take a deep breath in, then let it go slowly. Try to relax as much as possible. If your muscles are tensed up, the cramps will get worse. Taking those 30 second breaks to Simply Breathe can do wonders for stress levels, and therefore help a great deal with cramping issues.
Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!

Well when I am in so much pain I use heat. They do make heat patches that you can put on under your clothes. I think that they have an oder though. It is worth checking out. Also Primrose oil helps with our female cycles. I wish there was a cure, but there really isn't. I dont take pain medicine either. I just grin and bare it.

You could try herbal remedies from a chinese herbal shop, but I don't think you could bring those to the office though. I also saw an advertisement on a patch that is supposed to relieve cramps, but I forgot the name of the product.

I have to take muscle relaxers to help me with cramps. They do say that birth control pills will ease the cramps. Also what about this new thing where you don't have to have a period every month. It is some new med out for women.

Birth control pills are great, but for immediate relief, try to srink a hot cup of tea, camomille or something like that...I know what that's like! Try to think it's Friday! (something positive, you know?) :)
