Hi! I am so confused right now. I am a 21 year old female student who works full time bartending. I missed a week of work (Last week) and visited my doctor at the Walk In Clinic I go to *TWICE* in 3 days. He wrote me a note "excusing" my days missed at work due to a case of vertigo in my right ear. Now I am not a rich girl, I do not have health insurance (I know, I know, I am looking into it when I get my next 2 paychecks! lol) and everytime I go to visit the doctor its $70 office visit PLUS meds/tests so it totals out to be at least $150-250 each time I visit. My question is : I returned to work with my 2 doctors notes (got one each visit why not that's why I paid $70) everything was fine and I worked this past Friday Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday at work I got a very bad dizzy spell from my vertigo and had to go home. My boss told me I needed to go back to my doctor and get a note releasing me to go back to work. I am feeling better I just got a really random dizzy/nauseated spell at work and I don't have $70 for another office visit just to get a NOTE!

What do I do? Do I call the office instead of going in there and having other patients "listen in" ? If I call what do I say? I am so bad at these types of things. Please help me out. I need to go back to work on Friday, I am a starving student and I need to work :(

For about 15 minutes I could not make out where I was. I went little further and then I could remember the road back home. How did this sudden lapse of memory take place? I am 40 years old.

My brother-in-law was being seen in his local hospital's ER hallway (as all the rooms were full). A portable x-ray was taken of the bed beside him in the open hallway. That is illegal since it's ionizing radiation in the air and it scatters to whatever it can find to absorb into. He also had to get a CT scan and the tech said "oh this'll kill all your little swimmers." This hospital obviously has very poor radiation practices and they are unprofessional. She wants to know who she can contact to report this to, and I don't have any idea. I suggested OSHA (since they also regulate radiation in a hospital) but i don't even know how to do that. Any suggestions?

Every time i have to give blood for a test or something (which is often now that i am pregnant) , i bruise almost immediately and it's a big bruise that lasts for over a week. Initially i thought maybe the nurse i had was just too rough with me but this last time i hardly felt pain at all and she was able to get it on the first try but within an hour i was black and blue. I know i know, ask my doctor, and of course i will but i wanted to know if anyone else experiences this or knows what the cause could be. Anemia maybe? i have been taking my prenatal vitamins so i didnt think it would be due to an iron deficiency. My veins are very small and difficult to find, which i let them know right away and they usually take from the same vein because it is the only one that cooperates. Does anyone know what could be causing this and if i should be concerned? i would have them use a different vein but then they have to try 3 or 4 times to get it going and that most definitely bruises.

I have a question about sleep. Basically, it seems that for my body, when I stay awake till 3AM or so, I wake up the next morning and feel loopy and not really awake for several hours later. However, when I go to sleep around 12:30 or so, I wake up and feel rested. In both cases, I get the same amount of actual sleep hours. Does the time of night I am going to bed having an impact on me feeling tired? If so - please explain (and if possible provide sources/articles.) Thanks a bunch! :)

okay, everytime i kneel, my bones crack, 100% of the time. The last time I've cracked my knuckles was in the 7th grade. I'm in grade 11, and I am worried that I may have arthritis, my mom has arthritis I think, but it's very minimal. Like it's not that serious, but I'm already having problems at such a young age. My hips are mildly cracking and feeling stiff and I feel weak whenever I walk up the stairs (at school, they have small steps) and I get anemia often (especially when period time comes!! >.<) Is there a problem?? Am I going to get arthritis?? !! I need help! and my BACK is the worse of all!! If I stand/walk for a while (5-7 hours) my back will seriously start to hurt A LOT!!!!

There is a Neurologist here in town, Dr. P.D. Patel (the neurologist who worked on Christopher Reeves).

My husband has been referred to him, but we are trying to figure out why he is listed in the phone book under "Physicians & Surgeons-Neurology (Nervous System) It says under this ad for him Neurology & Psychiatry-- E.M.G & E.E.G.
**AND** he is also listed in the phone book under "Physicians & Surgeons-Psychiatry" It says under this ad P.D. Patel, MD. Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Medicine.

What we can't figure out is: is he is a psychiatrist and he is going to try and say that all the medical problems are caused by psychiatric problems/issues (which my husband has none, except for a little bit of depression-- but he's been disabled for over 10 years and can't work-his disability is getting worse-so a little depression would be normal) but I dont get it, does it just mean that he is a psychiatrist too?
I know this sounds like a dumb question.

I'm asking this because I don't want to be paraniod so... when you turn your head as if you're looking over your shoulder and and run your hand down the back/middle of your neck (opposite side from the way your head is turned), do you encounter a straight slope or a slope, then a bump and then a continuation of the slope. I'm asking because I've noticed slight bumps before on both sides of my neck but thought that it was normal or muscle or something. After a few months one of them is very small but the other is quite big/bigger than it was before. I hate going to the doctors so wanted to get advice and normality ratings before getting too concerned. Also, I've been having days where my neck feels like my head is way too heavy for it to support and starts aching, which could be completely unrelated.

I just got a trial pair of contacts on Friday. I have two very different prescriptions, my left eye is way worse then my right but my right has an astigmatism. So in the process of getting used to my contacts I will get these killer headache because the right swivles so much I can't focus. So tonight I have had them in the 8 hours I was supposed to and go to take them out. The right eye, with the thicker lens pops right out no problem, but I have now been trying for an hour to get the thinner left eye out. I have tried flushing it, lifting my lid, scrunching it in the corner, rolling my eyes around, and of course the normal way my doc told me to. My eye hurts horribly and I just want it out. I am so frustrated I was able to cry for about 20 minutes and that STILL didn't do it. I don't know what to do and my doctor's office isn't open again until tomorrow.

I work with the public and although we are separated by a glass partition, I pass paperwork back and forth under the window. Aside from the fact that I look like I've been crying uncontrollably for a week, I wonder about the health factor for the public. If I am just passing paperwork back and forth is it still contagious?
