I'm not going to turn this into a western countries are bad spill because I know Europe jumped on this non-smoking bandwagon but the reality of the matter is this, smoking is an unhealthy habit... but in reality smokers have rights too. I'm not a smoker by the way... In Japan, smoking is allowed almost everywhere except government facilities and a few places... There are a lot of unhealthy things that we take on daily in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and in our homes. It's almost impossible to get rid of all the unhealthiness around us so if smokers want to smoke they should be allowed to unless there is a hazard such as a gas station or some type of flammable area. If an place allows smokers, simply don't go there. It's a simple concept.

I have never personally had a problem being around people that smoke. However a couple of years ago the city I live in banned smoking in restraurants and most other public areas.
Never bothered me- I don't smoke.
Well a couple of weeks ago the wife and I went out on the town. We went into a club where people can still smoke and I have to say the smoke really bothered us. After not being around it for awhile then reintroducing myself back to the smoke, really was tough. My clothes smelled like smoke, my eyes got all red, and not to mention the whole second smoke health risks.
I believe that smoking should be banned in public areas, hope this helps.

The answer is the usual adamant NO, because it puts the health of non somkers at risk. Not only at risk but smoke from a smoker is unfiltered and therefore even more dangerous to inhale- and that is the smoke inhaled by non smokers.
Second some smokers don't clean up the mess they make and make ashtrays out of pretty much anything.
Third they can start a fire.

I hate to have hold my breath just enter a building. These lazy bastards hang out at the entrance so every time the door opens their smoke blows right into the building.
Also, while walking down the street and a person is smoking in front of me, I get their exhaust. There should be designate area that are elevated to get the smoke away from those who do not desire to inhale poison.

NO. I love the laws they have in Colorado now. No smoking within a hundred feet of any public building. Its funny watching people stand next to the street in the freezing cold just to smoke a cig. And sorry Nihon, but speak for yourself. You choose to eat unhealthy food, the only thing I will give you is the air and thats only if you live in a major city.

I smoke and I feel there should just be a ban on cigarettes all together. I guess if they did that then the doctors wouldn't be able to plan for their futures. I am trying to quit smoking and if it was not allowed in public it wouldn't leave me many places to do it, so it would make it easier to stop. I think that is one step in the right direction towards a ban alltogether.

No smoking should not be allowed in public for many many reasons...... for example Second hand smoke I have a brother with really bad athsma and if he went around smoke 2 much he could have an attak!!! another reason is that it is a bad example to all kids and or grownups!!!!! it also shows that u r rude, disrespectful 2 your surroundings and finally that it encureges others to do the same (hello global warming!!!!....1 of the causes!)

Absolutely not. I feel that anything that gives off a strong odor should be banned in public. Some people also lack the manners and common sense not to bathe themselves in their perfumes and it's made me ill more than once. Musk based perfumes just don't agree with me, apparently. I keep my smoking in the privacy of my own back patio, so they should keep their foul perfumes, or at least the body they've drenched with it, in the privacy of their homes. It's called basic respect for your fellow human and it's sadly in short supply.

NO, and I am a smoker. I feel that my habit of knowingly inhaling something that can cause disease and death should not be done around someone who wisely does not smoke especially children who have no choice.
I never smoke around children or people who do not smoke, even in my own home, I will either refrain or go outside, no one except myself should suffer because of my bad choice.
