When I have a hard time sleeping I have a cup of warm tea with very little sugar and some crackers. The tea makes me sleepy, and the crackers are just good with it. Do not watch TV as that is a stimulant and will take you a while to relax. Try breathing exercises to calm yourself if you are going to bed right after work or something, and lastly, turn down the heat. Body's sleep best when they are cool, I turn our thermostat back to 67 for bedtime. Good luck!

All these answers are wrong...you should never workout or exercise before you go to sleep because by doing so you would pump testosterone (men) or estrogen (women) into your body and then you will have a real hard time calming down to sleep....here what you do 1. Do not drink anything with caffeine in it after 10am. Decaffenated coffee is still loaded with caffeine so let it go also. Whatever you do, stay away form Mountain do altogether. if you have to have somehting like it, get a sprite. 2. limit the sugar intake to 2 teaspoons a day. 3. Head over to GNC and ask for a bottle of Melatonin...its cheap, like 8 bucks a bottle, its non addictive and you don't need a perscription. 4. Eat turkey or turkey lunch meat around bed time. 5. Lay off the naps...it confuses the body. 6. Stay hydrated...drink a few glasses of water about a hour before bed....it helps to metabolize anything toxic that may keep you awake.....

If you're having problems falling asleep try drinking warm milk. Just heat it up in a mug in the microwave then head to bed. That or chamomile tea. If you are in bed for an hour and still can't sleep get out of bed, sit in a different room and then go back to bed.
You could also try writing things down if your mind keeps racing. If that doesn't work try taking some tylenol pm, but only if you plan to sleep for 8hrs.
If all of that doesn't work, it might either be a more serious problem or your room.

Do you drink soda before you go to bed? Or within two hours before going to bed? Make sure you don't drink/eat anything with caffeine/sugar for at least two hours before going to bed. You can try different herbal teas that can help relax you and fall asleep a little easier. Another reason you might be having problems falling asleep is, do you have a lot of stress going on lately? That can keep a person up also. I don't know of a cure to help with that. But my best advise is make sure not to drink or eat anything with sugar or caffeine in it before going to bed. Hope that helps.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

First relax as completely as possible, take long deep breaths and let them out slowly and completely.concentrate on relaxing and do the deep slow breathing exercises again.Think of something you really enjoy continue to relax and breath slowly. It may take several nights to perfecting this but it will work every time.My opinion is that this is a form of self hypnosis

Try this relaxation exercise.
Make sure your room is dark and quiet (no radio - no tv blaring from the living room - no animals hopping all over you - no hubby or Significant Other snoring) and lay comfortably in the bed on your back.
Then close your eyes and focus on your toes. In your mind, say to your toes "Relax toes. Relax."
Feel your toes relax. Then move to your feet. Think "Relax feet. Relax."
Continue to move up your body to your chest, then do your hands/arms and then the neck/head. When you get to your head, you should feel very sleepy. If not, do the parts of your face. Relax mouth, relax. Relax eyes. Relax...
If any parts tighten back up, go back to them.
Good luck and sweet dreams! :)

Try eating some lettuce salad before sleeping, also avoid watching news or action TV series /movies, switch to comedies cause they help you to relax better and quicker.
