I'm asking this because I don't want to be paraniod so... when you turn your head as if you're looking over your shoulder and and run your hand down the back/middle of your neck (opposite side from the way your head is turned), do you encounter a straight slope or a slope, then a bump and then a continuation of the slope. I'm asking because I've noticed slight bumps before on both sides of my neck but thought that it was normal or muscle or something. After a few months one of them is very small but the other is quite big/bigger than it was before. I hate going to the doctors so wanted to get advice and normality ratings before getting too concerned. Also, I've been having days where my neck feels like my head is way too heavy for it to support and starts aching, which could be completely unrelated.

* Just a bit freaked because of a web site I went to with yes/no questions. It could be muscles in the neck, but I wanted to see if anyone else has bumps on the side of their necks (and I don't trust my self to not be overly dramatic and make things worse by continuously poking at them)

Hi
I would say that it is the glands that are located there, if one is larger than the other you may be fighting something i.e. an infection that you may or my not be aware of. But go to your local doctor to be sure. But I would not panic about this. But it is always wise to have these things checked.
Be well.

Umm I think the bumps you are talking about are either your muscles on your upper back, or shoulder bones.
If you say you have them on either side of your body, I really wouldnt worry, this is normally how you can check if something is abnormal- what appears on one side also appears on the other, if it doesnt, then its abnormal and see a medic.
The neck pain? could be growing pain (I assume you are still growing/under 25 years, which is aprox when you stop growing). Ohterwise you could be comming down wih a cold or flu
Or it could be from turnng your head too much and causing your self to tense up while doing this, so putting extra strain on your muscles and thus causing your muscles to be working extra hard and getting stressed and thus leaving you with tierd muscles and a neck that feels every weight of your head as it is tierd from being tensed up!

The bumps are glands ( my son has LARGE glands in his neck). If you are noticing a difference in them then you should see your Dr. they normally swell due to an infection and they can stay swollen for a very long time. I would see your Dr. just to make sure this is the case for you, no need to be sorry later

its most probably glands but to be on the safe side always have any lumps checked out by your doctor,at least then you can put your mind to rest instead of worrying what the lumps are

Woah, if it's changing size or shape you need to get it looked at. It's probably nothing, but better safe than sorry. I'd monitor them closely for a while, if it grows go see someone.
