Injuries - November 2007

I fell on the dirt bike onto the pavement and my cuts are kind of deep..i dont think i need stitches.. i have been putting antiobiotic ointment on them and keeping them covered.. has anyone ever had this happen? what is the best way to help them heal better? i have heard different things so please help! this happened last night

about 10 days agoi was playing football and i landed on my shoulder awkwardly and other person landed on my when i was like this and now the top of my shoulder hurts pretty bad. like i can carry light obects and even wear a backpack, but its hard for me to take off a shirt, make a quick movement, i cant sleep on it, and i tried to throw a football a few days ago, i can make the motion, bit if i try to throw more than 10 yrds or put any volacity on a throw it really hurts. is this just a sore shoulder? could anyone tell wats wrong with it from my describtion should i have it checked out? thanks.

We got a call from my sister in law yesterday evening that her 5 year old son had tried to pick up his 2 week old brother and accidentally dropped him on a carpeted floor.
She took him to the ER to make sure there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. By looking at him, he was acting as a 2 week old should. They did a catscan which is common in head trauma cases. We hear back that the baby has a skull fracture and is bleeding a bit. They are going to send him by ambulance to a neighboring cities Childrens hospital.
Well by this time, Mom is freakin'...thinking her baby is about to die and they wouldn't even let her ride in the ambulance with her son because of her anxiety levels.
Mom, Dad, and Grandma follow the ambulance and arrive at the Childrens hospital. They give the baby another catscan with more advanced machines ...they attending Dr. comes back out and says there is NO fracture, No bleeding. .Baby is fine.
How could a hospital be so wrong in their diagnosis?

My bf just had orthroscopic knee surgery yesterday to fix a minuscus tear. He is on Vicodin and is in extreme pain. Has anyone had this done, and is there anything this frustrated gf can do to help him relieve his pain between pain pill doses?

I was playing with my dog, and he slammed into my face full force, he weighs 55 pounds. I immediately got a nosebleed, it bled profusley for about 15 minutes. It has finally stopped. I have never had a nosebleed before so I don't know how serious this is. My nose doesn't hurt at all so I doubt it's serious. But I'm about to go to bed and I'd hate to bleed to death during my sleep, lol. Should I see a doc about this if I'm still bleeding in the morning?

Im in dance and i think i stretched too hard to get down on my left side splits and now its sooo sore or something and i cant make it down any more. its been like this for weeks. how long will it take to go away? should i continue stretching it or avoid stretching it? any tricks to make it go away? thanks :)

Over the last year or so I have noticed a small "squishy" lump right above my ankle on my lower leg. It is about 1 inch long, squishy feeling, and doesn't hurt to touch. I recently went to my physician and after taking an x-ray he said that he was not sure what it was, and is having me scheduled for an MRI. Also, nearly two years ago I took a rough fall in which my ankle took a hard bump (not sure if it is related). There really isn't any pain in my leg, but there is a discomfort feeling. Any idea what this could be? My physician told me that he was confident it was nothing bad, but I am a bit nervous.

we are playing pickelball It is like a wooden pickel ball padel basicly a wooden padel Some kid hit me on the top of my hand with the wooden padel full force and my hand swelled u of course I sticked through the pain until gym was over After gym class I changed and went to the nurse She looked at it and said Tiffany just try to put ice on it its going to hurt because it just happened Well that night my sister called my mom at work and asked that our dad take me to the doctor cuz of how bad it was during lunch My mom sent over my aunt to look at my hand she said it was just swollen cuz of what happened so I continued to ice it that nightThe next day it was killing and was the size of a Softball I just went in an out of the nurses office for ice every 1 hr. Today though it is black and blueMy fingers tend to change color.And more of hand keeps spreading and it looks like a big bruise only worse Nurse said that she thinks I have a fracture or its broken my hand m&d dont beliee me.

I have never sprained-sprained my ankle, just minimumly twisted, and it is making a cracking noise(when i twist it in circle). It BARLEY hurts, just a tinsy-tiny bit. I barley notice the pain. Why am I having this "cracking" noise?

i have to go to have an ingrown toenail removed tomorrow, i am 14 and bricking it!!! I think just partial removal not total nail removal. I have heard when the local anesthetic is being injected it is extremely painful?? Is this so..?

hey,
was at school at my mate passed me my bag(threw it) and i didn't see the bag coming and my heavy bag hit my chin side on and now it hurts to chew food, my bag was really heavy over 10 kilograms, the bag hit my chin really hard and fast so i don't know whats wrong, do i have a broken jaw? after being hit with the bag in the chin i was dazed for couple of seconds. can anyone help should i go to the doctor?

My mom burned her hands really badly on a heating stove when she was 3 years old and they were operated on when it happened but she'd always had horrible problems with her hands since. Recently I've talked her into seeing a specialist but now we aren't sure what kind of specialist to see, a burn specialist or a hand specialist? Does anyone have any advice? Sorry I don't have technical terms for these things.

I got hit on the bicep with a lacross ball. It made my entire arm numb (like a stinger) and I could barely lift my arm for almost a week. It even took the skin off my arm where it hit. It turned a portion of my bicep black, but it wasnt like a typical bruise. It has been 6 weeks and my arm is still dark in that spot and hurts when i touch it, even with a bar of soap in the shower. Should I be concerned? I dont have health insurance, so I dont want to splurge on a doctors visit if it is nothing to worry about.

Out of the clear blue I have started having this problem. I did have an abdominal hysterectomy 2 months ago so I'm thinking that it couldn't be nerve damage connected to that or it would have shown up sooner? Has anyone had this problem and if so, what do they think caused it and what did they do to get rid of it. Thanks.

I fractured my lower tibia just above the ankle, my doctor says that it heals fast cuz i'm young and it's not as bad. I was in a cast for a month and then got a walking boot, at first i had pain at the bottom of my foot (mostly in the heal) but i gradually put more and more weight on it and now i'm crutches free. I'm am wondering if i can take the next step without talking with my docor and walking without the boot, IS THAT SAFE? my next appointment is in 2 weeks ( IF I CAN WALK SHOULD I JUST SKIP THE APPOINTMENT?)

I stopped taking hardcore meds 2 years ago due to a back injury. Was taking 4- 80mg tab's of Oxycontin a day along with 4 doses of 10mg of Methadone. Two weeks later one ear started ringing & has been ringing ever since. Went to a Specialist ( $400.00 ) down the drain. I'll try anything except PEE in my ear. All answers are appreciated.

I don't like the intense effect of the whole pill. Can I just break it in half and feel the less intense effect? Or is this not recommended?

whenever i work out my chest muscle(bench press, machine, push ups, etc), my back hurts.
i've been working out for some time but i was ok. but it started to hurt about a month or two ago. first i thought i was gonna be ok, but it didnt get any better. i work on my chest muscle only twice a week. and i'm sure i'm doing it right.
should i go and see doc?

Last year in December I was hit by a car, but suffered no serious damage but a weakening knee. Months after the accident, I still had strong discomfort, so my mom took me to the doctor to check it out. From there, she prescribed me Aspirin (Which I never took after the first few days because I would get very drowsy during school) and I was sent to get my Knee X-rayed. The X-ray found no problems, but my still have pain at times (Inflammation during walking or going up the stairs), and when I rub it when it hurts, I feel there's some gap between the joints. Is this my imagination or is there some persisting problem?

About a year ago I experienced what felt like a stabbing pain in my rear when going #2... followed by a small amount of blood.. I went into the doctor and the doctor said to change my diet and it'll get better. I changed it and it got a lil better for a lil while.. now when I go #2, the water is almost all red, not pink... red, a rosey red. and sometimes I don't even have to go #2 for it to bleed, just the pressure of sitting on the toilet is enough to make it bleed. Should I request surgery? or see a doc and wait longer? I know it's a tear in my anus... but how much longer should I allow this to continue before surgery?

My dad who is 56, has a really bad torn meniscus on his knee. I believe that there is literally nothing that the body cannot heal itself of an that this is about to be healed.
