It does hurt a bit. Just loosen up your foot and tighten up your hand. If you ran into a rose bush it would hurt about the same amount but it would be no big deal because you were not expecting it. It is really not a painful deal. It is much less then what you are experiencing now.
IM or email me if you would like to talk about the procedure. I have been there and done that.
I wish you well.

I would recommend you stay home and fix the problem yourself. I did. I agree with most of the others except with #7 it took my toes about 2 months to grow back and hurt about all the time. When the nails grow back you have to be careful that you do not let them grow back in again. I AM NOT A DOCTOR BUT THIS IS WHAT I RECOMMEND for your problem. Get a product called Camphophenique apply it to your toes as often as you can in 5 to 7 days your toes will stop hurting keep applying the product until the red swollen part of your toe returns to normal. After the pain has stopped at that 7 day mark get a large toenail clipper that has a tool for cleaning out from under your nails. Take the tool and place it up under the side of the nail and move it towards the end of your toe. This will get the part of the nail causing the problem up on top of your toe. Keep the tool with you because as you walk it will work its way back into the toe and you will need to get it back on top again. In a few days the nail will grow long enough so that it is long enough to stay on top by itself. This procedure is not for the squeamish but it will get you over the problem and over the pain a lot faster and cheaper than what the doctor will do. God Bless

I'm sorry to say, but I had one removed also and the injection was a little painful. Once the injection is over though, everything goes by quite well and no more pain. So, just grit and bear it through the first part and you will be fine. It goes by pretty quick.
Good Luck!!

Yes, it was. It was quite painful (and I had a baby without an epidural!) I had one a few years ago. But it's worth it to get rid of the ingrown toenail and not deal with that anymore! That hurts too!!!

I have had the surgery for ingrown toe nail it aint even a surgery its more of a lay down and in about 5 minutes your wrapped and ready to leave the suckiest thing about it is that after you have it removed you have to go home and lay with your foot above your head for four hours. the needle is not painful you barely feel it if anything the liquid they push into will be felt more then the needle but all that does is get your toe warm. thats about it. but its cool. your toe is going to be numb and youll be ok.

I've had it done many times, finally had the entire nail removed and I won't lie to you, yes, the numbing injection hurts like crazy, but it is a very short pain before the numbing medication takes effect.

the sensation of pain is relative to different parts of the body and to each person but in th toe is not nearly as painful as other places like the face or family jewel location. try to concentrate on something else. When I was young the nurses would tell me don't move or you will break the needle and then they will need to take that out also... I hate nurses....

It is just Novocaine, no worse than having an injection in the gums for tooth extraction or dental repair. Novocaine is a great drug. You won't feel a thing! Good luck.
