Probably it's just bruised and sore but if you have any questions about it or it doesn't get any better in a reasonable length of time (a week or two) then make an appointment with your doctor.

David, yes you should go to the doctor. How long ago did this happen? Your jaw probably isn't broken, but wouldn't you like to know that for sure? If you did suffer a real injury, it could get worse without treatment and could require more intensive treatment later on.

Go on, have it checked out. And tell your mate to be more careful in the future.

No, you rotate your jaw to chew your food properly like all human beings. You think your jaw is going up and down, but it is rotating to allow for a mouthful of food to be properly chewed and processed. Nice try though. Look up a video of a bear or a wolf eating, that is what it looks like to chew in an up and down fashion.

An X-Ray would find out, If it was broken you would not be able to chew bubble gum.
That does not mean it is not injured, it could be out of alignment or fractured or anything, an X-Ray could determine that.
If it is not swollen and bruised it probablly is not broken.
Tell yer mate to call HEADS UP! before tossing or throwing stuff and enjoy life.

I think you need to go to an oral maxillofacial surgeon and he will take some XR of your jaw. Maybe has a fracture or /and bad bruise.
