How about ice and electrical stimulation? This along with massage is the typical treatment in Physical Therapy.

If you are in pain and the exercises cause more pain, it is too soon for you to be exercising. Discuss this with your DR.

Sciatica is cause by a pinched nerve in your lower spine. The sciatic nerve travels the lengths of your leg. If you are not getting appropriate PT and medical treatment that gets you relief, change Drs and PT.

I have your same problem for many years. Sciatica, which is caused when pressure is placed on either the L4 or L5 lumbar nerve root, can take a considerable amount of time to fully heal. If you haven't been to a physical therapist, you will find that those sessions will speed your healing.

If you pain doesn't subside within a few weeks, you should ask your doctor to refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon for a complete workup. You should have both standing and reclining lumbar x-rays, MRI of the lower spine, and electromyelogram and nerve conduction studies to determine your degree of scoliosis (if any), stenonis (narrowing of vertebral nerve pathways), and vertebral disk degeneration and dehydration.

A lot depends on whether your sciatica is due to an injury, aging, or osteoporosis. Sometimes surgery may be required, but in most cases, physical therapy, home exercise, improved posture, and weight loss will give complete recovery. Besides your pain pills, heat pads, yoga, and relaxation therapy and provide pain relief.

So..
I found many interesting info about sciatica here: http://curesciatica.toptips.org

While looking for a miracle cure, it has to be understood that sciatica pain in itself is not a disease. It is actually a symptom or a group of symptoms with an underlying cause that needs to be targeted if some sort of permanent pain relief is what one is looking for. But one thing is absolutely clear. Incorporating a few exercises that have a beneficial effect on sciatica pain in daily regime is of great help and whether a patient is taking drugs or not, these exercises ensure that his muscles are kept in a toned condition that lessen any flare up of pain. Just a few stretching exercises can bring about a drastic change in the levels of pain and signify the importance of exercise in the management of sciatica pain.

Check here a very effective sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

I've been battling sciatica for close to a decade, after a minor car accident, and I had tried everything the doc threw at mepills, injections, special mattresses This guide was extremely eye opening and within one week of the regimen you gave me I can barely feel any discomfort. You have no idea how much of a relief it is to be finally getting rid of a pain I've had to bear for so many years.
