If I pulled a muscle, say My hamstring, would it make my hamstring stronger when it was healed? I understand stretching decreases the likelyhood of pulling a muscle, but if you do pull a muscle, is it bad for you?

Over the weekend, my thumb tips started hurting like crazy. I trimed my fingernails all the way down and trimmed off some dry flaky skin. One thumb was orangy skin, but I trimmed that off. Now today I caught the left thumb nail on something and ripped part of it down to the nail bed. OUCH! What can I do to help my poor sore thumb out? (I've bandaged it already...just don't know what else to do to speed healing, especially since it's the same thumb as the orange skin was on.)

I have had this injury since I was a kid. Now I'm 30. I heard of surgery that can help but I'm concerned about how effective it would be. I'm wondering if I should just continue with cable machines and range of motion exercises.

In a pretty stupid attempt to fix my toenails, I wounded myself on one of my toes... The injury's been there for several days now and I've been taking care of it with Betadine with not very good results. As you may know, the fact that the feet is aislated and under stress during most of the day makes it kinda hard. Today I extracted a relatively large amount of pus for a toe and decided to try something else.

I was thinking on submerging to toe in alcohol for a while and then making a bandage from gauze, or something like that; I am afraid, however, that this will not do much good as it will still get infected again when I put my socks/shoes on.

So, do you have any suggestions on disinfecting it and KEEPING IT THAT WAY?

I tore the lateral meniscus in my knee, so I had surgery to clean the knee, but there is part of my cartilage missing so there is a bone on bone condition... this has caused me to stop running because of the pain, swelling, and stiffness. I can do it for a couple of days, but then it just starts to stiffen again and become problematic. Can't play basketball or anything that involves sharp cutting. I used to weight a healthy 180 at 5'11' and in shape. Now im the opposite. I was wondering if there was anyone who could give me some adivce and direction in this matter about losing the weight w/o bearing a treamendous load on my knee and if there is anything in particular I can do with my knee to help it.

I broke it about 6 weeks ago, the bone has healed and I have very little pain there, but my foot is killing me. The dr. says it will hurt for awhile, but I don't think he was paying attention to what I was saying. Is it normal to have this pain (it is along the outer side of my foot along the top), should I get a second opinion?

Hi all,

I sprained my ankle in a fall around 12 weeks ago, and I’m still suffering quite a lot of pain. I had an X-ray at the time so I know nothing was broken or fractured, and I did everything that I was told- ice, rest, elevation, trying to walk when possible so as it didn’t stiffen up (obviously without over-exerting it), but it still becomes extremely painful if I do something as simple as step on a stone in the street. It isn’t as swollen as it was when it first happened, but it does still swell slightly. I’ve been wearing flat, supportive boots or shoes since it happened, cannot even put my foot in anything with the slightest heel, and am getting a bit frustrated at the length of time it is taking to heal. Is it normal for it to take this long?

thanks

I just got it pierced last thursday. Everything was fine up till Sunday, where i guess my hands were dirty and caused my ear to swell. I thought it would go away but it didn't, even after 3 days. I tried ice and alcohol but it barley works. There are times where it is so swollen, i can't even see the earring. is there anything i can do to reduce the swelling?

A friend was flatline for about 20 seconds and had to be shocked back that was almost 3 days ago and yet she still has a pain in her chest, the doctors say it's normal and it will go in a day or two, also she had her stomache pumped and keeps having nose bleeds is that anything to do with it? Her doctors are all saying it's normal but they don't sound too reassuring

I just started a new job yesterday. While I was at work my ankle started to hurt so bad that I couldnt stand it. The pain was soo unbearable. I came home and put ice on it. It is swollen but I dont have insurance so I cant see a doctor. If I did decide to go to the doctor I would miss work. I was off today and it still hurts sooo bad. There is nothing that I can think of that could have caused this at work. I didnt say anything because I didnt want my boss to think that I was unreliable. Tomorrow I go back and this time I have to climb ladders. I think I may have sprained my inner ankel. Should I tell my boss or should I just tough it out? I dont want him to see me as a liability. What should I do?

I've had this ingrown toenail for quite some time now, and it's really getting to be annoying. I keep trying to cut it out, but everytime i tamper with it, it just seems to get worse. I even went to a doctor, and got the whole half of my toenail cut off, and the thing still grew back the same way. It's only my big right toe. Anyone have any advice?
