I tore the lateral meniscus in my knee, so I had surgery to clean the knee, but there is part of my cartilage missing so there is a bone on bone condition... this has caused me to stop running because of the pain, swelling, and stiffness. I can do it for a couple of days, but then it just starts to stiffen again and become problematic. Can't play basketball or anything that involves sharp cutting. I used to weight a healthy 180 at 5'11' and in shape. Now im the opposite. I was wondering if there was anyone who could give me some adivce and direction in this matter about losing the weight w/o bearing a treamendous load on my knee and if there is anything in particular I can do with my knee to help it.

Diet is also very important as well as excersize, but if you have a problem with leg excersizing you may want to try anarobic exercize or a form of Tie-Chi, it will help with your mind as well as your body. Everything in moderation-thats what my mom always said. If you can run or walk do it at a slow pace and don't injure any thing if you add that to watching what you eat you should be on the road to recovery. Hope your better soon!

adjust your diet and try swimming, its a great total body exercise that doesn't put any stress or impact on your knees. Great cardio workout especially for someone who used to run alot.

You need to do lighter exercises. Swimming or water aerobics definitely helps. water exercises are very soft on the joints.
