I've had this ingrown toenail for quite some time now, and it's really getting to be annoying. I keep trying to cut it out, but everytime i tamper with it, it just seems to get worse. I even went to a doctor, and got the whole half of my toenail cut off, and the thing still grew back the same way. It's only my big right toe. Anyone have any advice?

Strange, I had this on both toes last year about this time...really painful! Let the nail grow out and leave it long. Soak your foot in hot water and magnesium salts to relieve the pain, then get some wheat germ oil ...or vitamin E oil and massage this into the nail to nourish and soften it. I think mine happened because of an injury (getting kicked or stepped on when dancing in open toed shoes). One toenail turned black and is still "growing out"

I think as we age, or possibly because of diet, out toenails become more brittle and this can affect their growing pattern.

Just keep it clean, soak it often and let it grow out. That mean and ugly red hot skin is now back to being a tame fold around the nail.

Have the doctor remove the root of the toenail in the ingrown part. This means the toenail will never grow back in that spot. Works great when the ingrown nail is along the edge of either side of the nail.

I have to deal with this with my Autistic son.
What the dr. had me do is to put the skin gently away from the infected nail. (my son's usually get infected) This give room for the nail to come through without cutting the skin, which is what causes the infection in the first place.

If it's infected, I use hydrogen peroxide. Usually by that time the dr. has him on antibiotics. The main thing is to keep the skin pulled away from the nail. The dr. had me do this several times a day. I was also told to soak my son's feet in epson salt disolved in warm water. After the soak is the best time to gently push back the skin a little.

Also, look at how the foot moves when you walk. Does it turn in or turn out. How we put pressure on the feet, weight, movements, ect. also effect the toes.

I would suggest seeing a foot dr., if it wasn't a foot dr. you saw earlier. They can tell you better what to do than a general practitioner.

it might be the way you cut your toenails...cut them straight across, not U shaped
