I'm looking for books or sites, etc. on issues dealing with obesity, whether they be objective (information on what obesity is and its consequences) or subjective (personal accounts of people dealing with obesity, moral and legal issues, etc). Anyone know of any?

I am loosing someone to ITP..Not ITP exactly but my little cousin was diagnosed with ITP at 3 years old, but he's been getting really sick on and off for about 5 years now. My cousin is 12 years old and he is now in the hospital in PICU and he has been declared brain dead. The doctors say that the medicine that he was taking to keep his blood level stable caused him to get an infection in his brain, what they think is meningitis. I dont understand how this can happen. and me and my cousins are finding it so hard to cope with this. Has anyone ever lost someone to this? How did you cope and just learn to move on. He hasnt died yet because hes still on a repirator. He cant breath on his own and i know the parents are thinking about pulling the plug. How can this be? This is the hardest thing ive ever been through. If you have information on support groups please send em. I dont want to talk someone but i feel like im cryin out for help. I dont know wat to do n e more.

my friend has these flashes of light that pass before her eyes. She has been to several eye doctors to try and find out what causes them. She calls them orbs of light. There are no headaches or such when this happens. It just disturbs her sight. Has anyone had a similar experience, or know what causes these?

My 86yr old mother in law had a mild stroke lastnight. She has had 2 others, the first one being more severe. She was severely confused lastnight during this, she thought that her eye was her ear, she didnt reconize her house, she kept calling me Betty, and my names not Betty. The list goes on and on. What I would like to know is, what can we expect with these little strokes? The doctors dont explain everything and I think that we have a right to know and what to expect. She also had dementia, but her memory has never been as bad as lastnight. Please help someone!!

It was a concern. And started in the afternoon. This morning most of the sensation had gone. They also felt very warm and numb.

I was going to see a doctor if it continued today but chose not to as most of the 'pins and needles' have diappeared.

I'm worried that it may be some circulation problem - which may also indicate some other more serious cardio-related illness.

Any serious advice would certainly be helpful. Thank you.

Ok. This is embarrassing to say. But in relation to the post about my weird eyelash hair pulling habit and sometimes my eyebrows ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmxKuD9tYljaiYCYowQqZu7sy6IX?qid=20070226222206AAioOZm ), I realized that I also do something in my sleep a lot.

In my sleep, I find myself...... pulling out my pubic hair. It tends to itch down there a lot, so my way of relieving it is pulling out the hair..... I have NEVER told anybody that I do this. It's downright embarrassing and I've tried to stop. I really have. But I do this IN MY SLEEP!

I've had these weird "OCD" habits ever since I was really young... re-checking, random blashphemous thoughts, the need to keep things, pulling dead skin on my thumbs, etc.

Does anybody else do this?? (I'm mostly talking about the pubic hair thing...). I feel like I'm the only one. I think it's part of this weird Trichotillomania thing I have...

I had surgery Monday 2/19 and recovered at parents house until thursday. Well at least once a day since Friday I have found myself having no other choice than to lift my 3 year old which weighs 48 pounds (he's tall). I am a single mother and if he falls asleep in the car, when we get home I can't leave him in the car. I have to pick him up and carry him inside. It is going to be almost impossible not to lift him occassionally. I wonder if anyone knows how worried I should be regarding my recovery from hernia surgery which was open surgery using mesh to fix two hernias and try to bring stomach muscles in closer as well. I don't have follow up with surgeon until this wednesday 2/28.
