I have been having numbness in my feet and legs for the past 3 weeks. Also, I started my period Fri. and it stopped on Sun., I've never had this happen before and am very worried about this. What are some ways to help poor circulation? Also, what causes it? I'm only 34.

One of the biggest causes of poor circulation in the legs is smoking. That's because the tar in the cigarette that is absorbed into the lung on inhalation courses thru the veins and arteries until it finds a small place to rest , which would be the heart, or in the extremities. To address the numbness in the feet and legs, that may be due to a nerve compression due to a disc problem, ie, in the lower back. Do you lift and bend a lot causing stress on your lower back? It's not unusual for someone in their early 30's to have back strain and protruding discs. And as far as your period is concerned, that dosen't really have one thing to do with the others mentioned. What you should do is see your doctor as soon as possible, mention all the problems that you are experiencing at this time. Don't be afraid of discussing these symptoms with your MD.

I would get checked out by a doc since there is a bunch of things that can cause this. Anything from diabetes to degenerative neuropathy can cause the tingling. I wouldn't be to worried though since more times then not it is a begnin cause. In the mean time I would try some exercises or something like that, that will increase your heart rate for atleast 30 min 3 times a week. This may be just what you need to kick it. I would definitely go for running or swimming as the best exercise you can do.

Try to do a daily walking program and circulation will improve. also maybe if youre wearing pants and put in your wallet at the rear pocket, sit with it in a couple of hours, you will experience numbness of your feet and legs. repetition of this will result in "fat wallet syndrome" and that will cause a poor blood circulation in prolonged condition. Avoid that.. good luck

Use cold/hot shower alternate. Also exercises helps, positions where you move your legs up (like candle in yoga).
