Ok. This is embarrassing to say. But in relation to the post about my weird eyelash hair pulling habit and sometimes my eyebrows ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmxKuD9tYljaiYCYowQqZu7sy6IX?qid=20070226222206AAioOZm ), I realized that I also do something in my sleep a lot.
In my sleep, I find myself...... pulling out my pubic hair. It tends to itch down there a lot, so my way of relieving it is pulling out the hair..... I have NEVER told anybody that I do this. It's downright embarrassing and I've tried to stop. I really have. But I do this IN MY SLEEP!
I've had these weird "OCD" habits ever since I was really young... re-checking, random blashphemous thoughts, the need to keep things, pulling dead skin on my thumbs, etc.
Does anybody else do this?? (I'm mostly talking about the pubic hair thing...). I feel like I'm the only one. I think it's part of this weird Trichotillomania thing I have...

it definately is part of your trichotillomania. you are not alone. trich isn't limited to the head or even to yourself. it is NOT an OCD. its a condition where you unconciouslly pull out your hair. you may also find yourself pulling hair from stuffed animals, clothes, etc. one of the oddities of it is that it doesn't hurt. a good website for more info and some help is http://www.trich.org/index.asp
by the way people this is a REAL disorder and she is very brave to admit she has it. it is NOT a mental problem or a joke. be a little more sensitive or don't answer. its the same as someone laughing at you for having sever acne or big ears or a d average.

First off, THANK you, Tim T. The insensitivity of these people was truly appalling. But then again, many of us with trichotillomania are used to ignorance from those who don't know any better.
Sweetie, you are brave to come out with this, and no, you are not the only one. Many people with trichotillomania have reported that they also pull in the pubic region, even the hair on their legs, arms, face, anywhere where there is hair. It's a symptom of the disorder, and it doesn't make you a weird person. I posted long answer to your other post, so I'll let you read that one. Like I said, you are the same person, despite the trichotillomania. It doesn't change you one bit. Appearance is superficial. Get yourself that support system and rid yourself of that shame, because you don't deserve to have society drag you down and make you feel less of a person because of a physical technicality. Remember, the ignorant are more afraid of us because they don't understand, so they tend to react in a hurtful way.

I would want you to get checked out by a skin specialist to see if you have any type of fungal or other infection if you are doing this in response to itching - i know before i got diagnosed with seborrihac dermatitis (sp) I used to pull my hair, eyebrows, pubic hair out because it made the itch go away - and no, i didnt have any other type of infection or std or anything.. once i started using nizoral shampoo (yes, on my head and anything else with hair) the itching stopped. Otherwise, I am not that familiar with the Trichotillomania.

Buy an epilator. You seem to enjoy pain. An epilator removes hair by the root. You could do that, or you could get a bikini wax. I'm really starting to believe that a lot women get their pubic hair waxed because they enjoy the pain. It's so much less painful to shave it.

If you have itching in the pubic area you need to see a doc as you may have an infection or something as the itching is not normal.

never heard of this problem...
but then again, im pretty sure your the first one to just come out and admit this. maybe others will surface with this...
like you said, its just an OCD condition and you do it in your sleep, and it doesnt hurt you, and no one will EVER have to know about this. i'd say dont worry about it. Just do whats comfortable.

I would see a therapist if I were you. Esp. if it doesn't hurt you at all. There may be some biochemical reason why you feel the need to do this and why you may feel itchy in the first place.
Please seek help.
