Hi, am really hoping that i dont sound rotten here...
I have worked with people of all ages with Alzheimers and Dementia for many years and I get really angry when the government firstly tell people that these drugs are amazing and work for everyone and then refuse the funding.. I will say that I have looked after people who are on this drug and although it may work temporarily, the side effects and the condition it leaves a person in when the dose is reduced or stopped is horrendous.. There is no cure for these cruel illnesses and I believe there should be more funding for the sufferers to live in a safe caring environment with dignity..

Old people are not a priority. My dad has early onset Alzheimer's (age 62). He's just old enough to retire, but my mom isn't. She was forced to stop working to care for him. Medicare doesn't cover all of his medicines (which are $600 a month) and Social Security is only $1200 a month. Because they own a house, they aren't eligible for any government help whatsoever. Not even the two and half pounds a day your people get in England.

It seems that the government are a bunch of chocolate frogs and do not live in the real world.
They are totally immune to the fact that there needs to be funds for people suffering with the above mentioned ghastly disease and also the other ones out there the list being endless.
Obviously if there was a member in their family suffering it would be a case of a home out of sight out of mind only they have the money to be able to do this.I do not but will say there are good support groups around who are marvellous and helped me in times when things got to much for me to handle.
The money given is a disgrace and needs to be addressed.

Everyone today is crying for funds for their disease, there is where the problem lays, the noisy wheel gets the grease, right now the gays have the upper hand when the majority of money goes for HIV research, even though heart disease kills more people than the rest, next to it is cancer, but government representatives only care about votes,so they listen to whoever makes news,in my oppinion they should combine all the money for any disease according to the need and not because one group hollers more than the others

I agree, my Grandmother has dementia, and what a job it was recieving help off the government, its only because i am a trainee social worker, and found things out about getting her in to a residential home funded by the government, but if if wasn't for me, she would still be living independantly causing a massive risk to herself!!! the government dont give a s***t about things like this, unfortunately its a growing problem.

Have you tried the Alzheimers Disease Society? They are brilliant. Yes they are volunteers, but this means that they are dedicated. Also I f you go to your local social services EMI unit, you should be able to get help for respite care, and if this isn't enough then again social services should provide day care facilities in your area. Check it out - then scream!!

Our government sucks but the majority of us elected these officials to office. There are Alzheimer's treatments but they cannot stop the disease just increase one's general well being while they are suffering from the disease. Perhaps you should run for office or rally up support to bring the neccessity of treatment to public light.

as a retired nurse Iv seen what i think unfair decisions on the front line, but as hard it seems there is only so much money in the bank, what we need is a minister to spend time with a family and see what they go through, and then we might get a fairer peace of the money,They have difficult desitons to make,I wouldn't their job
