I had surgery Monday 2/19 and recovered at parents house until thursday. Well at least once a day since Friday I have found myself having no other choice than to lift my 3 year old which weighs 48 pounds (he's tall). I am a single mother and if he falls asleep in the car, when we get home I can't leave him in the car. I have to pick him up and carry him inside. It is going to be almost impossible not to lift him occassionally. I wonder if anyone knows how worried I should be regarding my recovery from hernia surgery which was open surgery using mesh to fix two hernias and try to bring stomach muscles in closer as well. I don't have follow up with surgeon until this wednesday 2/28.

You need to call the surgeon's office in the morning and talk to his nurse. I don't know what you weight restrictions are so it is hard to say if you are doing damage or not. Call the office and check this out in the morning.

What if you bring a stroller to put him in so you only have to lift him briefly into it? Your doctor really should have given you some guidelines about after care. You should call the office and ask some questions.
