YES!! Has he had an EEG done? You must insist that he has an EEG. Please do this. The docs insisted my 15 month old daughter had "febrile seizures" and it turned out that she flat out had epilepsy. The seizures were compounding damage to her brain that needed to be stopped by regular medication. Again, to answer your question, he can get them while he's sleeping. My daughter also had them, usually at night, a couple of hours after bedtime. We also did the motrin/tylenol rotation for fevers, but it didn't diminish the seizure activity occuring in the brain. You must insist your ped refer you to a pediatric neurologist. Simply ask the ped. if there are any tests he can do? Don't take no for an answer. An EEG is a painless test. It's better to be wrong and feel foolish than to take a chance with your child's health.

I'm so glad to know the EEG is all clear! Then I would wake him up to give him the motrin/tylenol. He still can have a seizure in his sleep so stay on the rotation. It's easiest to use an oral syringe made for the syrup formulas and they barely have to wake up for that if you just kind of feed it to him while he's asleep or semi-awake.

Yes he can, you should be very careful and watch him closely. Children's febrile diseases change very fast. If you are having to medicate him that often to keep his fever down, you should definitely wake him up to give it to him, no matter if it keeps him up. If he begins to convulse, put a cool wet cloth across the back of his neck and bathe him in cool water. You can rub his arms between the bones just above the wrist and between the first two bones of his hands to stop his convulsions. This happened to a lady with her baby in WalMart and this worked to stop the convulsion; the young boy came out of it and was awake by the time the ambulance came. I hope you will monitor his temperature and take it every time you dose him; if he gets above 101 you need to take him to the emergency room.

Have you tried suppositories? I have given to my 3 yr old without him even waking up while he was sick. Shoudn't you be giving him Tylenol anyway?
