i'm a 17 year old female. I'm of normal weight and pretty much a normal girl. Diabetes runs in my family so my dad was going to have me checked. I eat sweets and sugars quite often. I get tired alot... not too noticeable but dont have too much energy sometimes i don't know maybe i'm just lazy. At times i have frequent urination despite how much liquids i may drink. Is it a good idea for me to get tested?

A friend of mine has been diabetic since he was 11 y.o. He is 55 now. He had a kidney transplant a couple of years ago, but the new kidney is now only 20% functional because of the BK-virus. He started having problems with his legs about 6 months ago and now he can not feel one of his feet and can barely limp on the other one. Doctors say that the nerve in one foot died and the other foot will always be swollen and hurt quite a bit.

Somebody recommended Vanadyl Plus, but it is too toxic for the transplanted kidney.

I wonder if anybody knows of any treatment for such complications from diabetes. We need something that would work for a type 1 diabetes patient with a kidney transplant.

my husband is a diabetic and is controlling his blood sugar quite well with his meds and cinnamon.
However he is having problems with his levels when he first wakes us- I know about "the morning phenomenon". Does anyone have any suggestions how how to help this. It isn't as high as it used to be without meds but still it is high- it was 170 this morning. After dinner last night it was 120.

My doctor says I should tough it out. Is there no more serious effect from the swelling? I don't want to put up with this, and find out in a year from now that I have to have my foot cut off!

Is it normal to have a blood glucose level (in mmol/L) of around 7.0? Sometimes it goes down to 2.0-3.0, but I've only been measuring it for 2 days, and this is while I'm on holiday, relaxing and having plenty of food.

I don't know if I'm diabetic or not, I have to do more tests, but wanted to also monitor myself while waiting...

Sometimes I have a rush of energy that will last for hours and other times I will feel completely drained and depressed. I am 21 years old and this has been effecting me for over 5 years now including school, work, sleep and relationships. Could this be a sign of diabetes? If so, where do I go to get myself checked out?

if when you go for your appointment to get tested for it, you have all of the symptoms, but your blood sugar level is really low? Also i was told that hypoglycemia is a sign of diabetes, is that true?

thank you for answering these!

Most recently I changed over my basil insulin from Humilin N to Lantus. I currently take 16 units of Lantus at bedtime (11 PM) and when I wake up in the morning my sugars are almost to same as when i fell asleep. The problem occurs after I eat my breakfast. I eat the same thing as always for my breakfast which is a 1 Cup and a Half of Organic cereal which has alot of fibre with soy milk. When I go to test my sugars about 2 1/2 later i've been getting highs of about 12 - 14 mmoll. For this breakfast i take about 4 units of Humalog. I'm just wondering what is causing this....Is it because im not getting enough basal insulin at bedtime, I cant figure out why this is happening.

I am wondering if you use Byetta injections to help control your diabetes. If so, do you like it compared to your previous diabetes meds? Does it help control your hunger? My mom is looking at using this and she doesn't know much about it. I am trying to find out some opinions from people who use it on a daily basis. Thanks!

I read that cooking with Splenda will dry out cake/cookie recipes because real sugar helps retain moisture. Does anyone know (from experience) a good way to adjust the recipe to keep it from drying out when I substitute Splenda for sugar?
