A family member of mine is diabetic. I am not an expert on the type of a diet diabetics should keep to maintain their health, but I do know that sugar and carbs are to be limited. I was wondering, for a type 2 diabetic, how much sugar and carbs is considered "ok" to consume daily without getting complications from doing so? I am concerned about this family member because I often see her chew "sugarless" gum which has sugar additives, and eat things like regular cookies, jam, and add sugar to tea, etc. I'm not sure how much sugar and carbs she should be limiting herself to, but her current diet seems to be way off and I'm worried for her health. When I confronted her about eating the cookies, she told me that she ate a couple and that there can't possibly be a relevant amount of sugar in a few cookies. When it comes to "sugarless" gum, she says that because it says sugarless, then she can eat it - but don't sugar additives also affect diabetes? I would appreciate some advice.

I read that taking 1/2 teaspoon a day of cinnamon will lower one's blood sugar. I told my husband to do this..and lo and behold..within one week..it went down from 140 to 107. Yes, he does exercise and he is watching his food intake..but he did this before the cinnamon.

My question is: I once was told to take deep breaths before a blood pressure reading so my reading would go lower ..which it did of course..but someone else said..don't do that..you are getting a false reading. ..

so my question here is 'taking the 1/2 tsp cinnamon' seems to have lowered his blood sugar readings..is this giving a false reading???or is anything good to do...if the reading is lower/in normal range??

I am trying to be a donor for kidney transplant. Ive successfully passed every evaluation examination but they keep telling me that my blood pressure is of "concern". Doctors say I am healthy and fit, but don't know why my bp is 128/90. Is this too high? What might be the maximum bp a 25/m/6'/170# should have? Might they feel the need to reject me as a donor for such a bp reading?

I found out recently that I have type II diabetes and find that I am scared to death. I had gestational diabetes and it was difficult, but knowing that it would end at the baby's birth really helped me face it. Now I don't really know what to do. Did anyone else experience this with their diagnosis?

Would you go to the hospital, eat a snack, suck down a couple of tubes of Glucagon, or what?
What would you do if you accidentally took 55 units of Humalog? I am trying to figure out it the EMT is stupid or if I am making a big deal out of nothing.

My boyfriend accidentally took 55 units of Humalog instead of Lantus. When I arrived at his house, it was a regular fiasco between his ignorant mooching daughter and me. I called the ER of the hospital where I work and asked them whether we had enough time to make the 26 mi trip or if I should wait for an ambulance. The ER physician told me to wait for an ambulance and they would start an IV and administer a stat amp D-50. When the ambulance arrived, the EMT told him to eat a snack and that would take care of it.
What would you have done? I will fill you in on the rest later.

But I feel overwhelmed with all the info. Any advice? My wife is 53, active, healthy-looking, not obese. She has high blood sugar and is trying to control and monitor it through diet and exercise, trying to avoid getting to the insulin stage. She has tried low-carb South Beach approach, but is still above 100 (blood glucose) in the a.m. Are there other thing to try??
