be very careful of what you eat. natural sugars found in fruit aren't as much problem as those added to sweets. also get exercise every day.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Get very active!! Do your workouts.
Avoid overweight! If your weight is a little high, get it off.
Eat regularly and carefully. Avoid anything white -bread, rice, potatoes, etc.
Not all fruits were created equally! Soft sweet fruits are high sugar stuff.
Follow Portion Control! Not the servings in restaurants and fast food places, but reasonable servings.
You probably can't avoid eventually becoming diabetic. But you can do things to slow it down. Educate your self!! Knowledge is Power. If you use Google or one of the other really good search engines, they will come up with about half a mil sites on diabetes and the prevention of it.
Please do not fall for te advertisements saying "cure"!! there is no cure! there is only control!

There is sugar in fruits and even some in vegetables too. You cannot avoid sugar completely but you can sugar cut back on it. You may not be able to prevent getting diabetes, but a healthy life style, good diet, exercise and weight control can do wonders not only for health but for holding off on getting it.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/a6JKm
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

One way to battle the effects of diabetes and to cushion its ill effects is to adhere to a strict diabetic diet plan. A diabetic diet plan consists of a recommended list of daily intakes based on the diabetic food pyramid. Such a plan will ensure that the diabetic patient will receive the required nutrients that will help him or her cope up with the disadvantageous consequences of diabetes.
You can make use of the diabetic exchange system for a effective meal plan for yourself. Using the diabetic exchange system, a dietitian or diabetes professional develops a meal plan that contains a certain number of exchanges for each day depending on a person’s weight, age, height, medical history and dietary preference. As a general guideline, about 60 percent of total calorie intake each day should come from carbohydrates, which is your body’s main source of energy.

You probably can't prevent yourself from developing it. With that much of it in your family you are probably doomed. Your best bet is to regularly monitor your blood sugar. You also monitor your diet. Yes basically all foods have sugars but there are good sugars and bad sugars. You have to avoid the proccessed sugas in candy and sweets. those are the kinds that spike your levels. Also consume moderate amounts of carbohydrates. Rice is bad. Fruit is actually good for you because of the natural sugars but if you find that it causes your sugar levels to spike you will need to talk to a dietitian which I am not.
