I am trying to be a donor for kidney transplant. Ive successfully passed every evaluation examination but they keep telling me that my blood pressure is of "concern". Doctors say I am healthy and fit, but don't know why my bp is 128/90. Is this too high? What might be the maximum bp a 25/m/6'/170# should have? Might they feel the need to reject me as a donor for such a bp reading?

This is a very complex question. Sometimes kidneys fail because of hypertension; a particular condition responsible for kidney failure is called malignant hypertension. I am not suggesting this is an issue with you; rather an illustration of the worst case scenario of how hypertension can be a factor in kidney failure.

People who have chronic conditions such as diabetes or chronic hypertension are not good candidates for donation; as time goes on a person in this situation might be compromised with one less kidney.

Diabetes, blood pressure, tobaco and overweight are not a good combination... Suggest you to visit a doctor, he/she will provide you a special diet for you. Some non profit organizations provide free courses to learn to manage your health problems with special diets and safe exercise. Do not try to follow your own diet or over-exercise if you're not taking medication.

It is "too high" but not by much. Ideally, you B/P should be 120/80, 110/75 being the lowest. You can watch your sodium intake and exercise and drink more water - this may help in decreasing your B/P.
