For about a year now my grandfather has been having these attacks...Where his sugar or diabetes level goes really low and he's completely out of it. He talks out of his head [saying random things], incoherent, hard to understand, yells alot, and in his recent attack he kept talking about his deceased brother...Saying "he was coming to see him". He had his latest attack early this morning he was screaming and vomiting and hard to manage. We slipped a peppermint in his mouth [it usually gets his diabetes level back to normal when it goes too low] he kept spitting it out and it took hours to get him back to his normal state...Is it just because his sugar level is low or is it something else? He goes to the doctor regularly and they've never discovered anything...What should I do? After his blood sugar level goes back to normal so does he but he doesn't remember the attack at all...Plus he's loosing weight and he eats alot...What could be wrong? Help please?

I'm worried about my boyfriend's health. He is in his early thirties and has been an insulin dependent diabetic since he was five. He is about 40 or 50 lbs overweight. His blood sugar has been consistently high in the mornings (around 250.) He just had a scare with a foot wound and his eye doctor has found the first signs of diabetic retinopathy.

He's a quiet guy and doesn't discuss all of this openly with me. I know what is going on as far as all the medical issues because I ask him pointedly about it. I just don't know what he is personally feeling. I've told him that I think he should find a better doctor and start eating better. I've actually begged and implored him to do so. I think the biggest problem is his diet. He eats a large volume of food daily. I think he needs a daily caloric limit set. I am currently seeing a dietician myself and think at least a session or two would be so great for him to set a diet. How do I get him to work on his health?

My husband has been a diabetic for a while, and his levels are better- but something is happening we do not understand. 2 hours after he eats, his levels are lower then just before his next meal. Why is this, and have any suggestions? The highest level that he has had is 235.

My 12 year old poodle was recently diagnosed with diabetes. He takes two insulin shots per day and is doing pretty good. However, he has now developed a terrible problem with his feet. They are red, swollen, and in some areas even look kind of infected looking. Could this be related to the diabetic condition?

I thought putting a bandaid on the situation was all I needed to do. I stopped drinking and thought I was eating the right foods. Well I cheated a little. Pancake here and a corn muffin there, the next thing I knew my sugar level was 290. I'm back on my boring menu. Egg whites and sala for breakfast, salad for lunch, and a regular meal for dinner.

Help me though. I need to snack on something healthy, any suggestions???

I was diaganosed with diabeties in 98 and MS & Lupus in 2000. I got my diabeties under control and have done well until this happened 3 weeks ago. It took aprox.2 weeks to get a diagnosis and my neurolgist and eye dr. agreed the steroids were my best choice to help to regain my sight-I've had 5 days of IVs and started today by mouth. My meter readings have ranged from 74 to 423 This is very scarey and I know that the more stressed I get the more my levels rise. My primary care Dr.added to my reg. treatment which was 1000 glucophage and 2.5 glyburide daily. I'm now taking 2000 mg glucophage, 5 glyburide,15 actos and 100 mg janavia. I was told to stick with a high protien diet but I don't really want anything to eat I try but everything taste terrible and makes me nauseated. What can I do? Help! and Pray for me, THANKS!

I have been bad with checking my blood, until the last few days. This morning my reading was 171. I am taking 1000mg Metformin evry 8 hours and 10 mg every 12 hours, each day. I'm not sure what I am eating that is bad for me, but these numbers worry me. I see my doctor every 3 months and will need to have blood work (incl Hem A1C) before my next appt in Sept. I'm not sure if I should call my doctor at this time or wait. Does anyone some general suggestions that I can use to try to reduce this number? Or maybe references (books or websites)? I know I need to increase my daily exercise too, but I'm sure I'm eating the wrong kinds of foods, to affect me way into the next morning. I was diagnosed in 1999 but have forgotten much of what I learned from that long ago. I'm hoping someone can help me now - my wife is pleading for me to do SOMETHING, and I admit things are out of control. I know there are others out there who have gone through this and are better now.

The problem is this:
I have diabetes, and I need to test my blood sugar using test strips. These test strips can only be used once, and then must be thrown out. I have a cold, and bad blood sugar, and I needs to test as much as I can! But when I go to my pharmacy and order them, a women name Enigma says I can't have them, but eventuall I explained why I used so many, and she wrote down that I could have them on Monday. I also ordered insulin (medicine for diabetes blood suagr) and needles to inject the insulin. On Monday the chimist said no one ever ordered test strips, and my insulin and needles were all wrong! I need test srips, but I have none now! I'm 14, and I don't know what to do! Please help me!
