Do you want side effects? or do you want to know what it does?
Metformin/Glucophage makes the liver quit dumping glycogen on the system and helps the muscles accept the natural insulin available.
Side effects that are most noticible are digestive upsets. If you sneak up on the full dosage ordered by the doctor, it is easier to get through. Half a tablet per dosing for about a week, then the full tablet. Also can take it with Pepto dose!!
It may and may not cause gas, diarrhea or upset stomach.
It is a systemic drug. Meaning it needs to build up in the system over several weeks to be really effective. Missing a dose is not a huge deal. Taking extra because you want to pig out won't do any good.
Metformin really didn't bother me at all. It was the other **** the doctor ordered that gave me stomach cramps.

You know what I avoided this prescribed drug for 3yrs like an idiot, and now I'm very scared of my 5 day old type 2 diagnosis. All u get is loose stools and its no big deal. I actually mixed up dizzyness and heavyness from my high glucose levels. Take it u will be glad u did. My pharmasist says half the world is on it and it doesn't work if u drink alcohol. What does it do---ur glucose number lowers because it helps ur body process its own insulin better.

My biggest thing was lots of diarrhea. Had to stop taking it though due to pregnancy. Alot of people say its made them lose weight. I didn't have that added perk from it though.
