My question is lets say right now I do have diabetes but I do not know because I havnt been checked...so if I have diabetes right now and basically do nothing about it because I do not know I have diabetes. What will evenutally happen? Will I like wake up tommorrow in pain and go to the hospital? Will I like have a seizure? Or what will happen to me so then for exmaple I get a stroke and I go to the hospital they do blood work then find out...so what acutally happens to someone who has diabetes and doesn't know? Someone told me this which I think is true because I am always scared thinking I have diabetes and other stuff he said "If you had diabetes which you thought you had for almost 3 months you would know you had diabetes something would have been happened."
Thank you all very very much and take care.

Hello everyone thank you for taking your time and helping me out on my question. My question is I am 16 years old I weigh 252lbs 5'10 I know that I am overweight I have been making alot of changes and am on my way to losing alot of weight. I was wondering how do you really know you have diabetes unless you get checked via blood work etc. Basically I could have diabetes right now and not even know it? So what would evenutally happen if I do nothing about it because I dont know I have it? Will I like die tommorrow or get very very sick and go to the hospital and they will tell me I have diabetes. Nobody on my mothers or fathers side has had diabetes or any medical problems at all...so what are the chances of me having it? I am often thirsty, dry mouth, tired...etc.

Thank you very very much in reading and helping.
Take care everyone.

My family doctor said my blood sugar was close to the diabetic level and was alarmed about it. I probably should have told her I heard the same thing about 20 years ago but I forgot. A different doctor looked at my blood sugar and said it was on the high end of normal, but it was ok. What should I do? Should I get a third opinion?

he came back from a buisness trip. we've been separated for a long time, and he started to tell us that theres something wrong with him
and then when i finally got it out of him he told me he has diabetes, and he only knows it but he didnt go do anyhthing about it witha doctor, i think he has type 1 because hes gone through a dramatic weight loss, stress and hes tired, also hes starting to lose touch at the end of his fingers. what can i do?? i mean can he survive without insulin? i dont htink he wants to go to the hospital because hes the a citizen yet, which would cost a lot of money. :(

I have type 2 diabetes... been diagnosed for about a year now. My doctor just checked mine because my monitor has been telling me that my sugars have been consistantly in the 140's. In the morning I'm lucky if they are in the 120's. Usually the morning check is in the 130's. He changed my montitor to one that you can check the accuracy, I did that and it still shows the higher levels. I'm not on any medications. I was hoping he would put me on glucaphage or something like that. I'm eating right, excercising 6 times a week, etc. My doc did the blood test at a lab that checks your blood sugars for the past 3 months and he said they were good and for me to keep a log of my testing at home and see him in 4 weeks.

* Always tired even after a good nights sleep

Diabetes runs very strong in my family. My grandmother had her leg amputated because of it and now my mother has it. Is there a good strict diet or eating plan out there so that I can lower my chances of getting it? Ive already started monitoring my blood sugar on a daily basis. Im only 21 and so its better to start young. I want a long, happy and healthy life.

Im pre-diabetic with hypoglycemia. It got worst, I went to the doctor to get checked up. (my doctor was not available anymore). The new doctor said that my low sugar attacks were in my head. I went to another one and they said the same thing. I decided to get a new glucose monitor to make sure that my old one was not showing inaccurate resutls. Well the new monitor yield the same results (I bought a different brand). I decided to just try to eat more balanced and take my levels every so often, especially days that I feel sick. The other night I went to bed. I woke up very suddlenly and felt ill. I didn't know what was going on, I decided to try to make it to the kitchen and I thought I had to either call the emergency and colapse or try to eat my glucose tabs and as much as I can from our fridge. I never had it that bad. I usually react really bad at 60mg/dl. With this episode I couldnt take my levels I was so close to black out. what should I do? Cant go to the dr, they dont beleive

I have been diabetic for over 30 years and the only other type 1 diabetic I have ever met is my own sister. (I've met plenty of type 2 diabetics, including my brother and my other sister. But no type 1's) They say that only about 5% of the diabetics in America are type 1. So I just thought I would say Hi to some of the other type 1 diabetics out there.
