The BRAT diet IS what's commonly "prescribed". That said, here is an alternative for days when you are too ill to eat:

A "Full fluid" or "Clear Fluid" diet to prevent dehydration with some *soulable* fibre mixed in:

-Oatmeal (some people actually can get this down no problem)
-Apple juice
-Chicken broth
-Pudding/diet pudding
-Jello (diet or regular, depending on blood sugar)
-Ginger Ale (diet or regular depending on your blood sugar if diabetic).
-Some people find that soda crackers help with nausea if you have it, and the added salt is useful if you have diarrhea.
-Drink lots of water.

Most people should avoid milk products as they tend to make diarrhea worse for some. If this is the case, do not use the pudding suggestion.

If you are diabetic and are having trouble controlling your blood sugar while ill:

-Call your doctor if you do not know how to adjust your insulin/medication for sick days.
-Test your blood sugar at least once every 2-4 hours.
-Check for ketones if your blood sugar is high.
-Drink regular (not diet) Ginger Ale or juice if you cannot eat normally and your blood sugar is low.
-Have someone with you who knows your diabetes care if you are too ill to take care of yourself.

Eat whatever doesn't upset your stomach. As long as you stay hydrated, I wouldn't worry too much about specifics. Avoid hot sauce or spicy foods.

I think you are thinking of the BRAT diet...

Bananas

Rice

Apples

Toast

Fluids are very important, as is protein. Yogurt would be good; these foods are only recommended because they are bland.

Good luck with that!!
