I haven't really given up much at all. I've actually benefited from becoming diabetic. After doing the research, and learning how to take care of myself, I feel better than I did twenty years ago. I still drink an occasional beer, still have an occasional (unfrosted) doughnut, and pretty much anything I want. I never was much into sweets anyway. So there you have it... I gave up very little and I don't miss a thing, really.

Largely ,a life style of eating more and more sweets is what I was doing. Mostly because my insulin wasn't working I'd get fatter and fatter and couldn't lose wt when i tried. When I was diagnosised and received type 2 and metformin dieting with low carbs has shown me I was addicted to carbs (sugar) and never full. I eat now for health and I mean I read labels, measure, and journal food. I have had to put my eating in perspective or face giving myself insulin shots----don't want to go there. Don't want stroke or heart attack either so I've faced the music so to speak and will continue.

beans and cornbread!!! It is the hardest part of this darn mess I am in. supposedly beans are the ideal food for diabetics as they have a low GI number, loaded with fiber, but they just send my glucose levels through the roof. Cornbread too!! I love cornbread!!

The first was morning muffins. That was where I had to start and gradually eliminate other things. My doctor caught me buying muffins in the super market and shook his head. I knew I couldn't lie about it any more. First I cut those treasures in half. Then I left the butter off, etc. Eventually I quit buying them and I honestly don't miss them anymore.

I'm from the south and it was really hard for me to give up sweet tea. I had no idea how much I loved it until I couldn't have it anymore.
