My family is going to our cabin this weekend, and we always have a few drinks. My mom is a borderline diabetic, so she can't drink most drinks. I don't like seeing her left out, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any drinks that she would still be able to have that wouldn't affect her blood-sugar too much???

I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes and already went to the diatician to do the whole low carb/low sugar diet. I prick my finger 4 times a day to monitor my blood sugar. What my question is is: Will my doctor (or most doctors) do follow up tests through the pregnancy (like another ultrasound, amniocentesis, etc) if my blood sugars are controlled? I have Medicaid and now am a high risk pregnancy, will they still cover the extra tests because they only allow one paid ultrasound during a pregnancy- will that change now? Also, if my doctor doesn't feel they are necessary, should I ask for them anyway? I'm very nervous about something being wrong with my baby (as any mother is, but more so now). Any advice would be helpful, and thank you in advance!

Will taking an ice bath, affect my body or blood sugar in anyway? I have to do it for sports. Theres a full body bath in a tub. And just for the legs in a garbage can full of ice&water. I'm just wondering if there are any medical concerns, because diabetes affects more than just blood sugar, such as eyes and teeth. So help? (: OH. I have type one diabetes.

I also posted this on the regular Health section. But I want to try this section cause it might be more of a help specific(:

should i somehow not eat? anything, a sandwich, sends me soaring. when i inject prescribed insuline doses of 43u lantus at night and 12u humalog plain with meals. no help these days. very little anyway. i seem to be growing immune to insulin. i suspect the insulin on ignites my appetite. i cannot go to bed (3 a.m.) without a cheeseburger. i struggle with insomnia and hungar. any very serious input will be appreciated. this is no joke.

sometimes I feel really light headed and tired but other times i can just tell that im feeling cruddy so i'll drink juice (usually cranberry) and after that i'll be fine until later. But lately i've been drinking a lot of water and it seems like i just can't quench my thirst, anybody who's diabetic that wouldn't mind sharing there symptoms and how they knew they were diabetic would be nice.

I have diabetes and I am so tired of always having to take shots and keep track of them. It's also a hassle to take insulin at lunch (i'm in high school) around so many people, and going to the bathroom to take it takes up a lot of time. So I'm thinking about getting the pump, but I'm worried about it falling off or getting wrecked since I participate in sports sometimes. And I am also worrying about it getting in the way, since I wear form-fitting shirts and not the really loose ones. (i'd rather not have it stick out)

i know a friend who has type 1 diabetes and she is skiping her shots in the evening and overdosing in the morning to cover for what she has missed at night and i knw they call that "diabulimia" this has been going on for a little less than a year, she lies about her readings, how much longer does she have if she continues to do this how much time does she have left untill it turns fatal? and if she keeps this up what may/could/will happen?

Is a glucose level over 106 mg/dl after only 4 hours (not 8) of fasting cause for concern in someone who tested 91 mg/dl seven months earlier after fasting overnight (approximately 10 hours)? Generally, anything over 100 can be prediabetic, but both WebMD and the American Heart Association website say that this test requires eight hours of fasting. In this case, (91 after overnight fast in January, followed by 106 after four hour fast in August), (a) should it be assumed that the reading after the longer fast is more valid and the reading after the shorter fast is high because of too short a fasting period, or (b) is the increase of 15 mg/dl too much to attribute to fasting for only four hours, and evidence that the level is rising at an average rate of approximately 2 mg/dl per month.

This is in a 33-year-old white male, 5'6", 142 lbs at the first test, 134 lbs at the second test, nonsmoker, BP 128/76 at first test and 105/60 at second.
