When did you test 110? Was that fasting or after eating?
The important test is called A1C. It measures your glycolated hemoglobin, how many of your red blood cells have bonded to sugar. There are home test kits for this on the market.
But if you have a blood glucose meter, measure when you eat, and 2 hrs afterwards. If you're 110 two hours after eating, you're probably not diabetic. If you're 110 when you wake up in the morning, then you might be diabetic.
I'm not sure what the standards are for 'diabetic' and 'prediabetic', but I would treat them about the same. If I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic I would start eating and exercising as if I was diabetic.

There is an A1C kit on the market but you may need a prescription. All other tests should be done by your doctor. While 110 is a good fasting number, there are other factors that only your doctor can evaluate. Prediabetics will sometimes have too low blood sugar before diabetes sets in. Again, your doctor is your best source.

a lot depends on when the 110 was the result and even more depends on if this is repeated.
Normal blood glucose levels are from 65 to 100 fasting - that is 8 to 10 hours after the last meal. Normals may spike to a fairly high number but come back to less than 100 in about 2 hours after eating.
More depends on the accuracy of the meter used to check your glucose levels!! There is no rule or law that all meters are more than 50% accurate, so be aware that the meter used may be off by more than 50 points!!!
If you are really curious go to your doctor and ask for complete blood count (CBC) and/or Glucose Tolerance Test.
These are expensive out of pocket, so make sure to check on your insurance coverage.
Meters that are most accurate are Freestyle and One Touch.

If your fasting sugar is between 101 to 125mg/dL you have prediabetes. If you want to confirm whether you have diabetes, you need to go get labs ordered from your doctor. You need to check a fasting blood glucose times 2. If your BS is > or equal to 126 two times in a row, you have DM. An A1C is checked when you are on medications for therapy although some order that as well.

yes it depends on how long after you ate last the test was taken. If you read 110 on an empty stomach and had nothing to eat for at least 8 hours that is not a good sign.Blood sugars normally run 80-100, .four hours after a meal. There are strips you can put in urine to test sugar levels but they don't give numbers just estimates determined by the color of the strip.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/osULk
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

Yes when they test for diabetes they do special blood tests. If you think you might have diabetes you have to see your doc and get him to order diabetes testing. He will probably order the test where you drink the yucky syrup and then get your blood drawn every so often for a couple of hours.
