Talk to a nutritionist. It isn't about sugar -- it is about total carbohydrates and their glycemic index. Your insurance should cover a diabetes course -- and it will be eye-opening. Do it.

all food creates sugar. but yu can watch it by using this
first you should eat 6 small meals. it should be like 8am eat a fruit and oatmeal. (use equal for sweetner and skim milk) 2 hours later 10 am eat some carrots and maybe a salad. (lettuce, tomatoes, cukes, radishes etc.) you can use light dressing or regular if your sugar isn't high and you are controlled diebatic) 1200 you eat small amount. eat fruit, 8 oz milk 5 crackers and maybe 1/2 peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. 200 pm you get yursefl some crackers and small tose salad. (very small) 4pm amke suppuer use 3 oz meat grilled or boiled 2 tblsspoon veg (peas corn brocoli etc) green vegies best 2 tbls rice or potaoe no butter. continue like that substituting like so

google : Glycemic Index and pay attention to the medium to low level foods!

then check each food in your own bod. test, eat the food, wait about 2 hours, test again. Depending on the reading you keep the food in your food plan or delete it.

Journal all of this. I do foods testing everytime my meds change! I do the testing at snack times. A stenographer's note book is a very handy tool for all this journaling.

good luck planning your menus!

Call a hospital and ask to speak to their dietician, they can give you a print out on calorie intake etc.
