I have been bad with checking my blood, until the last few days. This morning my reading was 171. I am taking 1000mg Metformin evry 8 hours and 10 mg every 12 hours, each day. I'm not sure what I am eating that is bad for me, but these numbers worry me. I see my doctor every 3 months and will need to have blood work (incl Hem A1C) before my next appt in Sept. I'm not sure if I should call my doctor at this time or wait. Does anyone some general suggestions that I can use to try to reduce this number? Or maybe references (books or websites)? I know I need to increase my daily exercise too, but I'm sure I'm eating the wrong kinds of foods, to affect me way into the next morning. I was diagnosed in 1999 but have forgotten much of what I learned from that long ago. I'm hoping someone can help me now - my wife is pleading for me to do SOMETHING, and I admit things are out of control. I know there are others out there who have gone through this and are better now.

If your sugar goes over 300 or AT ANY TIME YOU EXPERIENCE THE SYMPTOMS OF DKA OR SHOW KETONES OR HIGH LEVELS OF GLUCOSE IN YOUR URINE.

All diabetics should have urine test strips for glucose and ketones.

If your meter reads "HIGH", you should call 911 IMMEDIATELY. Most meters have a cutoff around 500-600 and if a sugar level is higher than that, it will read "high".

Well, 171 for fasting is certainly higher than it would ideally be, but it's hardly an emergency, I think you can wait a couple of weeks for your appointment as long as it's not shooting up during the day or going too low.
As for what to do, taking 1000 of metformin 3 times daily is rather a lot, and I'm not sure what your other medication is (the one you're taking at 10mg q12 hours) but it sounds like it may be of benefit to you to add another agent to try to get your fasting glucose down (though I would have to see your glucose at various times during the day to make sure, it may be high at other times as well).
As for what to eat, you pretty much know that, no sugar, low carbs. Anything sweet should be eaten infrequently and in small quantities (except for things where the sweetness comes from nutrasweet or any other non-nutritive sweetener). Rice, bread, pasta, and other things like that are also not the greatest. It's not perfect, but the very simple rule of thumb I sometimes tell my patients is to try not to eat anything white (there are exceptions, like eggs and cauliflower). Also, exercise and weight loss always help, to whatever extent that's possible for you.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

first of all you msut check the blood 4 x a day. that is what they tell you all the time on tv they mean it. its very improtant it ruins the organs if you let sugar stay hi. you can have heart attack, stroke or coma and i am sure you don't want to do this. so you are taking metf 2 x day. you are taking 10 mil once a day. well you really should be going to specialist and have him check this out. first of all start writing down what your counts are. you need to also start writing down everything you put in your mouth. literally. if you are drinking liquor or beer stop. i know its hard buthey if you want to live another 10 20 years you have to do this. your sugar should be 100 or less wtih medications. if you hae high blood pressure which i am sure you have you must also watch that. so be careful. you can eat normal but you can't have much starch (potatoes and rice corn) and you need to eat veggies and fruit (one small glass juice in mornig) you can eat toast, egg and one bacon with coffee, lunch eat light salad, half sandwich, small bag chips fruit. supper 3 oz meat not fried, vegs and fruit or salda. you hae to be careful and read your blood all the tiem and get checked after you put down the suargrs for 2 weeks then call doctor and get with it listen to your wife.

Usually finger sticks of 151 are treated with insulin coverage. At 171, you needed a unit or two of insulin. Your med is a "good" size dosage (mg) but, if it's not working for you...there are lots of anti diabetic meds (do not take avandia or actos) and perhaps your doc needs to try something else or add another med (glucatrol or amaryl - remember only your doc can prescribe) Repeated high blood sugar is damaging your body - if continued left untreated...nerve damage, vision problems, you get the idea. Start testing you blood sugar more often, record these results and speak with your doc soon.

First I think you answered your own question by admitting that you have been eating the wrong foods and you need to exercise! Why wait til September for the Dr. to tell you this. Try those changes first if it is still high then you should call your Dr..drink lots of water.
