Metformin is a drug given to diabetics. Taken as it is perscribed and following your proper diet you should have very good results. Monitor your sugar and keep a record, when you go back to your doctor take the record with you. Eating proper, losing weight if needed, exercising, and your medication will help prevent the side effects that diabetics can develop. you should have a complete eye exam every year and they should be told about your medical history and what medications you are taking. Some diabetics can get back to normal sugar levels when they lose weight, and even get to where they no longer have to take medications. Talk all of this over with your doctor.

My husband and I both take Metformin. I have lost about 10 pounds since starting it, but I don't know for a fact that it is because of the Metformin. I also started a thyroid pill because my thyroid is underactive, as well as a water pill, which will make you lose weight. I really don't have any bad side effects. It is helping to bring my blood sugar count under control.

Just be sure that you used birth control while taking this medication unless you plan on becoming pregnant. It is also used in women experienceing infertility, and can make you ovulate if you currently don't. Just so you know, but I have been on Metformin for a few years, and I have not had too many bad side effects. Just some dirrhea every now and then.

I've taken Metformin for a long time. It is a good, relatively safe drug that is unlikely to cause low blood sugar attacks and is easy on the heart. It does help in weight loss, provided one watches the diet, too. I've had no negative side effects.

I take Metformin HCL 1,000 mg tablets twice a day. This was prescribed for me to help me lose some my weight. I have not had any side effects from it at all. It does help you to lose weight. It is not something that will make you lose weight fast or anything, it helps out with the body and sugar intakes and all.
Go to this site for information, it is very good.

I have been taking Metformin (Met) for a year. It does help you loosed weight, but you still have to work had to loose it.
you might want to stay away from carbs and greesy food as well as a lot of sugars.. They will make your stomach very loose while on met.
The first few weeks you will need to constantly know hwere the bathroom is.
Please not Met can cause elevated liver enymes. So keep watch.

My mother who is in her early 70's has been taking it for about 2 years now because she has diabetes and was having a hard time controlling her blood sugar level. The negative effects are gastric problems - she sometimes gets nauseated and she tends to burp and belch a lot. She also likes different foods now. The plus side is that she lost plenty of weight which helped steady her sugar level wonderfully.

I take it will no bad side effects. If you experience any, there are other drugs to help you control your blood sugar level. The doctor can go over them with you.
