My doctor says I should tough it out. Is there no more serious effect from the swelling? I don't want to put up with this, and find out in a year from now that I have to have my foot cut off!

Swelling of the feet will not cause you to have a foot cut off. Going barefoot, cutting your foot and getting an infection that won't heal and turns into gangrene may cause you to have your foot cut off. Try wearing support socks to reduce the swelling and stay as active as possible so you keep a good supply of blood going to your feet. If your doctor is concerned about the swelling he will probably order a diuretic but it doesn't sound like he sees a problem at this time.

yes there is sometimes you can feel like you have something like the flu you have to stop taking metformin. then you get to the doctor has to do with liver. i forget the glyburide also is one that you have to watch sugar may go down fast and its quick acting. i take all of those and have blood taking all the time. by what does he mean tough it out? hey if he is speciliast and he would lose a leg will he tough it out if you lose one? i think you need a new doctor huh?

I have taken actose and metaformin for 6 months now with no swelling of any kind.
I would have a 2nd doctor give an opinion.
Could be water retention which can be easily controlled in most cases with a very inexpensive med called forisimide.

I take glyburide and metformin and don't have any swelling, maybe you should check with another doctor...I don't think staying swollen would be good for you.

How about seeking out other experts' opinion on that matter...maybe it could give some light there for you to make some sort of decision for yourself...Hey sister, don't worry too much , ok ?
