i'm a 17 year old female. I'm of normal weight and pretty much a normal girl. Diabetes runs in my family so my dad was going to have me checked. I eat sweets and sugars quite often. I get tired alot... not too noticeable but dont have too much energy sometimes i don't know maybe i'm just lazy. At times i have frequent urination despite how much liquids i may drink. Is it a good idea for me to get tested?

Most definitely it would be best if you got checked as soon as possible. Even if the outcome of the test isn't what you hoped for or wanted to hear you may catch it at the point where they can control it with pills and a better diet and exercise. Otherwise, catching it later, when your body makes no insulin at all means you would have to inject insulin daily, and believe me it's no fun at all.
Diabetes is an inconvenience at worst. If you don't let it get you down and you take care of yourself it's manageable in your everyday life. So, yes, get checked and take care.

I say that, though it is a hard thing to do, its better to go get tested so that you can manage it, rather than let it get so bad that its so obvious that you have it and you loose your eye sight or something. I mean that can happen. And, even if you don't have it now, you may develope it, co you should get it checked reguraly, just so that you dont have to sit in the hospital bed, dieing of something that you could have controled.

Yes, it is a good idea for you to be tested. Take it from someone who knows. I didn't know I had diabetes until I almost died from it..my sugar count was 600 and I had a really bad infection inside my body from a kidney stone and no one knew until they did an xray and blood sugar count. I had no signs of it.

yep you are not lucky due to family having it and with being tired and stuff it sounds like you hav eit you have to stop the sweets for quite awhile and slow down with pop and other drinks with sugar. you should have been doing this anyhow and keep diet so you wouldn't have it so early in life.
