ok my moms 47 years old and has a bad case of depression...she thinks of herself as a freak! we have told her time and time again that she is not!!! she gets upset because she cant remember things and has a bad memory...she says that she is just going to take a gone and spatter herself over the wall!!!!! i mean i am 16 i dont know what to do!!!!! she works at a bank that seems to give her a lot of stress!!! She says the thing about killing herself about once a month maybe once every two months...and i felt really bad for her and i get upset when she says it but she tells me that i am the only thing thats holding her back from suicide!!!!! now just tonight she said she wouldnt shoot herself she would just fill the garage up with carbon monoxide and stay in the garage until she dies!!! i once again thought she was joking but then she said i WAS the reason for keeping her from killing herself...but now she thinks that i am miserable with her because shes a bad mom...and i dont need her...

I need some examples of double binding for school, what is something that an instructor might say to me that would put me in a double binding situation, here is what wikipedia says about it. Thanks

The double bind is often misunderstood to be a simple Catch-22 situation, where the victim is trapped by two conflicting demands. While it is true that at the core of the double bind are two conflicting demands, the difference lies in how they are imposed upon the victim, what the victim's understanding of the situation is, and who imposes these demands upon the victim. Unlike the usual no-win situation, the victim is largely unaware of the exact nature of the paradoxical situation he or she is in. This is because a demand is imposed upon them by someone they regard with respect, and the demand itself is inherently impossible to fulfill. Bateson defines the double bind as follows (paraphrased):

1. The situation involves two or more persons, one of whom is designated, for the purposes of definition, as the "victim". The others are people who are in some way in a higher position to the victim, for example a figure of authority such as a parent whom the victim respects.
2. Repeated experience. The double bind is a recurrent theme in the experience of the victim and as such cannot be constituted as a single traumatic experience.
3. A primary injunction is imposed upon the victim by the other person in one of two forms: (a) Do "X", or I will punish you. (b) Do not do "X", or I will punish you. The punishment is assumed to be either the withdrawing of love, the expression of hate and anger, or abandonment resulting from the authority figure's expression of extreme helplessness.
4. A secondary injunction is imposed upon the victim that conflicts with the first at a higher and more abstract level. For example, "Do what I told you but only do it because you want to." However, it is not necessary that this injunction be expressed verbally.
5. If necessary, a tertiary injunction is imposed upon the victim to prevent them from escaping the dilemma.
6. Finally, Bateson states that the complete list of the previous requirements may be unnecessary in the event that the victim is already viewing their world in double bind patterns. Bateson goes on to give the general characteristics of such a relationship:
1. When the victim is involved in an intense relationship; that is, a relationship in which he feels it is vitally important that he discriminate accurately what sort of message is being communicated so that he may respond appropriately.
2. And, the victim is caught in a situation in which the other person in the relationship is expressing two orders of message and one of these denies the other.
3. And, the victim is unable to comment on the messages being expressed to correct his discrimination of what order of message to respond to, i.e., he cannot make a metacommunicative statement.

I had my ears triple pierced in June at a Claire's store ( where I got my ears pierced and double pierced ) . I cleaned them very regularly (in fact, probably more than I needed to). I turned them the way I was supposed to and have never taken them out for more than an hour since they were pierced. Also, I have never changed the piercing. I have left the original piercing in since it is good white gold and I figured it wouldn't be crappy like other cheap earrings and infect my holes.

My question is....they are still sore, even after all these months, and I have lumps on them (not noticable unless you look at the backs, but very large nonetheless). The right one has a larger lump and is sorer than the left, but I am pretty sure that is because I only talk with the phone on my right ear, so it has more access to bacteria and stuff..

I have a seriously traumatic fear of flying, the only thing that works is strong xanex, but it leaves me feelig even worse. I have tried meditation, teas, yoga, relaxation techniques and fear of flying courses, nothing works. I fly overseas in two weekw and the anxiety is already out of control? Any tried and true tricks?

Are there any other options for someone who needs to see a psychiatrist, but the wait is 3+ months? I know the ER is an option, but that is pretty extreme for the situation. What else can be done? Is there anyway the hospital would "fit you in" for certain circumstances? And just to vent...isn't it sick that there is such a long wait?! People don't make psych appointments because things are going great...

when i was about 15 i was abused by my father.

im 17 now and it still bothers me a lot, i have low self esteem, poor body image, drinking issues, eating issues, and self injury issues.

but the one thing that bothers me the most is that i can't keep relationships for very long...as soon as somebody does the slightest thing i don't like it's over. and something in my head tells me this isn't the way it's supposed to be, i hate not being able to trust or feel anything for anyone...i've been to counseling but it didn't help, i haven't told anyone about this because i don't want to be taken out of my house...any help?

I am 26 and for the last 4-6 weeks I have noticed that I am bruising very easy. I went to the hosp last week and when the nurse took out my IV, I was asked if I take blood thinners b/c I was bleeding so much... (it was everywhere)
I just put 2 and 2 together and I know they have to be linked in some way....

I'm taking a boxing fitness class, and we do a lot of things using the arms, and also we do shadow boxing, we use the punching bag, but we do not lift weights. So i was wondering if you can get some arm muscle by doing all that or i have to do some weight lifting also.
