My dentist had told me I should get a root canal done for one of my teeth. I don't know if I should do the procedure, b/c it is very expensive, and I have no insurance to help me pay for it. Should I do it anyways? What will happen if I don't?

take it from someone who has experienced the horrendous pain resulting from an abscessed tooth that i should have had a root canal done on a couple of years ago, you NEED to get it done as soon as you can. if it doesn't hurt now, it will someday, and the pain is unbearable. I didn't sleep for a week straight, even when I was taking pain medication and antibiotics for the infection. I'm sure your dentist can arrange a payment plan for you, but you really should have it done. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on my worst enemy.

If you do not have the root canal done then the only other option that you have is to have the tooth extracted. The nerve of the tooth is infected so it needs to be removed and that is what your dentist will do when you have the root canal done. If you have the tooth extracted then over time your other teeth will shift and move into the space so your bite will not be the same. This is why it is very important that you save your tooth if you can. Talk with your dentist about a payment plan since you do not have any insurance. I'm sure that he will work with you. Good Luck and I hope that you go for the root canal.

O.K LISTEN TO ME... ANSWER ME THIS, DO YOU FLOSS, BRUSH AND GO FOR REGULAR CHECK-UPS? IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO ALL THREE THEN YES GET THE ROOT CANAL. THE COST REALLY IS EXPENSIVE BUT THERE SHOULD BE THIRD PARTY FINANCING AVAILABLE. ASK THE OFFICE IF THEY USE CARECREDIT. GO TO CARECREDIT.COM AND APPLY. YOU WILL ALSO NEED WHAT IS CALLED A POST AND CORE $250.00 AND A CROWN $800.00 NOW IF YOUR YOUNG, WELL LET'S SAY UNDER 60 YRS OLD. DO IT. IF YOUR DENTIST DID NOT TELL YOU ABOUT THE POST AND AND CROWN, FIND A NEW DENTIST. AFTER A ROOT CANAL YOUR TOOTH IS DEAD, IT WILL DRY UP AND LITERALLY FALL OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, THAT OF COARSE IS AFTER THE GUM INFECTION YOU'LL GET. SO IF YOU DO THE ROOT CANAL DO IT ALL. HOPE THAT HELPED YOU.

Yes, get it done. I just had one yesterday, didn't hurt much at all. If you don't get it done you will end up losing the tooth, plus you'll be in pain. A lot of dentist will set up a payment plan. Some even give discounts for having no insurance.

I have never been through one, but I have heard they are horrible! I have a discount plan that saves me money every time I go to the dentist. You might want to check it out. A friend of mine saved $600 a couple weeks ago.

Well if the dentist said you should have it done, then you really should, otherwise; the severe pain and swelling from it will re occur.

HOW MUCH DO YOU VALUE YOUR TOOTH?
IF YOU WANT TO SAVE IT, HAVE THE ROOT CANAL OTHERWISE, HAVE IT EXTRACTED.
