Just wondering why patients are offered ice cream after surgery? Saw it on films (US films) quite a lot and am wondering if that actually happens in real life. Definitely does not happen at hospitals in my country.....

I do 90 minutes of excerise on my bike most days, and 45 minutes on the days I can't. How long will it take me to loose weight? I am female, age 21, and a size 14. My pulse rate can go up to 130-150 so I know I've been working hard. My diet, well, it's not that I eat a lot I should be eating more according to some people..

I know I'm supposed to sit straight at my desk at work, but given an hour or so I'll slowly slide into a slouch without even noticing.

My feet are flat on the ground, and I have a modern chair with lumbar support, but still I find myself sitting on the edge of the chair, back curved into it, or sometimes hunched over my desk. How can I force myself to sit up straight?

There is a question and answer on this board that was of particular interest to me.

A description of what a CABG is and how it is performed was given. Inside the answer a person claiming to be a Doctor gave the following information to describe a bypass, "bypass is where they take veins from your legs (or synthetic) and graft them onto the existing vessel to 'bypass' the obstruction ".

My question has to do with the word of "synthetic". Has technology advanced to where it is possible to use some type of synthetic material to perform grafts instead of using a persons own arteries and veins?

I've had a CABG performed. It was explained to me that the veins and arteries they used were not in the greatest of shape and that I would probably have to have the procedure done again at some point in time. I asked at the time if there were any options other than using my own veins and arteries. I was told no. Has this changed?

I am a male aged 55. I am not diabitic and take losataren potassium 50 mg /day to control my blood preassure. Drink alcohol (33.4% strength) 200 ml before dinner.I have beeen experiencing, a muscle pain all over the body, sleepiness, pain in some joints when moving and itchy skin in some places, especially on the back for more than 2 weeks. A physian who known to me and knows that I am drinking alcohol, suggested it was due to some drug reaction with alcohol and advised me to stop drinking alcohol. Even two days after stoping alcohol completely I experienced the same symptoms. Consulted another specialist physcian, she tentatively diagnosed the condition as low blood tyyroxin level and prescribed Thyroxin 50 microgram, Cetrim 10 mg (anti histamine) both 1 tab a day for 2 weeks. And also prescribed sustid soap (antifungal soap) Asked to do Hb/PCV, FT4TSH and S.alkalinephosphatase and to see her in 2 weeks. Can anyone suggest what this condition is?

I have a pain that feels like its on my left backside just above my hipbone. Sometimes it also feels like its right above my hip on my left front side on my abdomen. Also, as of right now, I'll feel it go up to my left shoulder.

What is this!? Can it be my appendix, even though that organ is on the right side? Is it gullbladder? Ovaries? What??

***Yesterday was my sister's birthday and I ate quite a bit of junk food, which seemed to aggrevate it a little more. I've had this pain for about a month or so.

I've had a headache for the last week now and paracetemol isn't helping. I can't get into the doctors ( about right for our country) and I was wondering if any of you have had a similar ailment? The headache is so bad I can't put my head on a pillow and sleep.

Ok well about 3 years ago I jumped off a swing and landed on my side of my ankle. It really hurt but I never went to the doctor. It really hurt for about 1 year but I nevered bothered to go to the doctor, which now I see that that was a big mistake. Sometimes it just hurts at random times and whenever I hurt it alittle it really kills. Is there anything I can do BESIDES go to the doctor? What is it? Any good websites? Plz help!?!

If I do go to the doctor what will they do?

I am concerned about my partner (male, 66) who seems to me to be showing signs of poor communication and comprehension resulting in anger and frustration. He does have an increasing degree of hearing loss but even if words are reinforced he still seems to go off into a world of his own. He seems to have an attitude of "I'm not going to give you my full attention because I know what you are going to say". He finds things difficult to understand in general and relies on me to make all phone calls (except to family). His behaviour tonight, although in some ways typical, was also unusual. We had arranged for friends to come for dinner and half hour before they were due he sat on the lounge dressed in old clothes (daggy), unshaven and hair ruffled. He seemed to be looking for a fight and was not in a good mood. The dinner arrangement had been agreed on 3 days before and he acted as though it was totally unimportant. When confronted he became angry and decided to go out! Embarrassing

I am afraid to ask her because I don't want to hurt her feelings. I want to try to have a baby soon but I don't know if the radiation treatment she will have will effect my chances of getting pregnant or harm the baby. I work in a very small office. Thanks so much.

Whenever I eat eggs, I have sulfur smelling burps for a few days and I feel nauseous. (I know it's gross, but unfortunately true) Is this an allergy to eggs, or sulfur, or not an allergy problem at all? Plus, sometimes I have the same symptoms if I eat eggs that are baked into food, such as cookies or cake. Sometimes I feel miserable for few days after I eat eggs, or something that had eggs in them. I never had this problem as a child, but I do as an adult. Plus, because of this I try to stay away from eggs or anything that has eggs in them as much as possible. (it's really hard to do though)

It's common knowledge that dishwashing soap, paste, etc. is poisonous when ingested. But what about when these products come into contact with wounds, with or without washing them off afterwards?
