TMT - Treadmill Test -- Stress induced Electrocardiogram
TMT is the most widely used test in the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease. It involves recording the 12-lead ECG before, during, and after exercise on a treadmill.
The test consists of a standardized gradual incremental increase in external workload while the patient's ECG, symptoms, and arm blood pressure are continuously being monitored. The test is discontinued upon evidence of chest discomfort, severe shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, ST-segment depression of greater than 0.2 mV (2 mm), a fall in systolic blood pressure exceeding 10 mmHg, or the development of a ventricular tachyarrhythmia.
This test helps to discover any relation between exercise and chest discomfort and the typical ECG signs of myocardial ischemia.

TMT means a treadmill test done for finding out any changes occcuaring in ECG with stress or if the ECG is normal at rest but symptoms of angina are present.
Actually it is CTMT that is computerized tread mill testing for finding out coronary insuffciency or ischmia of heart.
THe ECG leads are applied like in normal ECG with a BP monitoring Cough in ur arm & then ur asked to walk on tread mill which is computerized to record ur ECG while ur walking It is grades as statge 1 - 4 . With every 3 min the stage advances & uphil tilt of machine is increased & speed also increases so u have to do a fast walk & run on machine .Usual duration is 9 -12 min. If u feel like pain chest or breathlessness beyond normal or dizzi the test can be stopped immediately. If the ECG changes that is ST segement shifts downwards more than 4 mm then the test is stopped immedialty. Done under constant supervision of a Doctor. It got sensitivity around 60 -70 % & specificity around 70 -90 %.It is a non invasive test done before planning coronary angiogram.

Ummm... it means Thread Mill Test .... basically they make u run and record ur heart's electrical activity... it's done because ur heart in normal conditions like when ur lying in ur bed may work normally but under stress (like when running) it might not function properly ... they do TMT to find out that .
well...when i mean functioning i am referring to it's blood supply ... tmt finds out whether the supply of blood ( via the coronary arteries) is suffecient enough for the heart's cells to live during strenous exercise .... if it's not then it might lead to heart attack ( mycocardial infarction MI ) .
But a TMT is not a very sensitive test ... as in there are actually 3 coronary arteries supplying ur heart ... tmt is positive usually only when all the 3 or blocked ..... in order to find out even if just one artery is getting blocked u have do a 65 slice CT ( it's a scan ask ur doc ) or an angiogram ( where they pass a dye into the coronary circlutaion and take pics of it )
cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerio
