My daughter, she's 16, just recently brought home a note from the clinic at school. Apparently, they screened the junior class for different health issues, one being their Body Mass Index. How important is it to base one's health status on their BMI? This letter says that my daughter may be at risk for all types of diseases. I'm questioning this whole BMI thing because my daughter IS active. She swing dances 4 nights a week, is in her 4th semester of weight lifting class, and eats a healthy vegan diet. There is not one ounce of fat on her body...you can barely pinch skin anywhere. The only way she could lose any weight is to lose muscle, or maybe have a breast reduction (she's a size 36G, which is why she was interested in weight lifting class, supposedly weight lifting can reduce a woman's breast side, but it hasn't happened.) The letter from school was very critical of my parenting skills, and suggested I need to seek advice on how to keep my daughter active and healthy.
